Honorable mention goes to not to my first Chicago song but the first one I associated with the band name, “Feeling Stronger Every Day”. The first time I remember hearing it was around 1991. As I began learning about different instruments often used in rock music, I thought the electric piano played on this song was a Wurlitzer. I only figured out when I was 20 in 2000 that it was a suitcase Rhodes.

The chord progressions in One Hundred Ways are so beautiful. Same with Just Once. Kudos to Quincy Jones, James Ingram and all the composers. Some of the best music ever.

Rhodes is the holy grail for me, it was the riders on the storm that got me in my youth. Breakin it down for me, made me feel that much closer to the doors. I played the sax, and I use the Aerophone wind controller to play the raindrop. I work on it for several month, until one day my fingers took over and I wasn't thinking it anymore. It was a great day of victory.

I agree w/ this list, but c'mon no Angela (TAXI Theme) probably one of the most well know Rhodes themes. (; Maybe in part 2 ((:

Like a lot of others, I suspect, first thing I did was spin round to my keyboard and work out the "Billy Joel mistake" to check I wasn't making it! Love this episode but after how much I loved your "Big Band Bossa" breakdown I am, 'very sadly' looking forward to your Quincy tribute - absolute genius and a big loss. .

What gorgeous sounds! I would agree that on Living for the City it was probably layered. Watching a live version on KZbin the lowest bass note is played on a bass guitar.

While there were stereo recordings of piano performances and recitals, and there were experiments even in the 1960s, rotary speakers drove home the point of a stereo sound system. It enveloped you! Very cozy, like electric organs. And it's even more exaggerated with this plugin (good thing). I know quite a few songs I would put here before The Doors... :P but top video! You nailed this upload, Mr. Doctor. :)

Nice sounds. The intro of the Riders of the storm is not correct though , as in original song, there is a full bar with only the Ostinato bass notes before the descending cascade of 16th notes which imitate the rain. The key signature is also Also the melodic between that doest start on beat 1 but between beat 3 and 4 and finally the original key signature is different. It is so iconic. Other than that , well done.

The Rhodes Anthology is nice in a certain range of not too dynamic play, and mostly covered in its effects. Outside of that, the small sample size in connection with some kind of modelling does not deliver the same Rhodes quality as The Famous E, Keyscape and Scarbee deliver. Still I like using it for some special use cases, with the Sparkletop variation better playable and not as problematic as the original or NIs version of it, just offering some pleasant vintage sound. Attack and release also can sound a bit unnatural in this new Rhodes plugin. And the modelled amps are only static snapshots and not well adjustable. Finally its midrange heavy warmth, while sounding pleasant solo, is quite problematic in a mix, and it doesn't sound good any longer for my taste, when you turn down the mellow mids: this plugin is incapable of kicking butt with a more agressive, less lower mids heavy sound, like a real amped Rhodes is very capable of doing. To sum up my experience with it: Lots of limits, and some really nice sweet spots.

Until now, the Rhodes VST of reference was AAS Lounge Lizzard, it's a great plugin but their price is ludicrous, more than twice that of Rhodes ! So the choice is a no brainer.
