Bought my first motorcycle 3 1/2 years ago. I’m 6’2” and 210lbs, but I spent that first year riding a 250cc Yamaha across the country twice. Watching KZbin videos, many of those creators were using your parts, lead me to my second motorcycle, the Honda Shadow 600. Between spending that first year on a 250, and the last 2 1/2 years on the Honda Shadow 600, I’m sure you can guess I’ve been told more than a few times I need a bigger motorcycle. I’ve ridden over 40,000 miles in 3 years, with trips on the Honda to Mexico and Alaska. I can assure everyone that the Honda Shadow 600 can handle it all just fine. I’ve never felt uncomfortable on the Shadow. I’ve spent about $800 on tires, but otherwise, oil, filters, spark plugs, brake shoes… probably less than $500 in maintenance. I’ve never broken down, and I’ve been a long way from help on more than a few occasions. It’s 2024, and me and my 2007 Honda Shadow are still going strong.

Breath of fresh air to see some praise for this bike. Had an obsessive fascination for Harleys when I was a kid. Never learned to ride, got older and let the dream die. Now I'm in my late 30's and there's a bit of nagging regret there in the back of my mind. The fascination's starting to come back and I want to learn to ride. I've have been looking into which bike to get, prefferably used so I can save some cash and get some protective gear. Honda Shadows keep catching my eye for the price, look, approachable power and weight. There always seems to be a few available from private owners for $2000-$4000. Just gotta stack dem chips for a few months.

I went with a '94 Honda Shadow 1100. I got nothing but good things to say about it. I like that it has a 4-Speed. I am one of those weirdo old school riders who would rather have long gears that I can use the full potential of the powerband. Also less shifting to worry about and I can put more focus on the road, and in my general opinion, 4-Speeds are a lot more fun overall and gives you better overall control in slowing down or speeding up depending on conditions. More throttle, less shifting makes for a fun time and comfort as well.

I stopped riding right after I started back in the 80s so I could raise a family (money was tight). Two years ago I retired and the first thing I did was shop for a Bike. After looking at a few different makes on Marketplace, I found a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit that has 20200 miles and was reasonably priced. Best purchase I've made in years. I love this machine. I picked up an 04 Shadow 750 Aero this year and I flipping love it. Really the only flaw in it is the g****mn oil dipstick, which is unreliable and hard to read. A sight glass would be an infinite improvement. Otherwise it's damn near perfect, especially with an aftermarket exhaust to let it really growl. It won't win many drag races, but otherwise it has plenty of power/torque for real-world riding and even touring, and in exchange for that, you get 56MPH. These bikes deserve so much more respect than they get.

I’ve owned many bikes . Styles , sizes , everything from a mini bike to a Valkyrie, To Dyna Harley . The most comfortable bike I’ve ever owned or ridden was a 2004 Aero 750 shadow . A little under powered IMO . I’m 250 pounds 6’1” and wife is a buck 10 . Not so sure any 750 would handle that weight on a grade . Flat ground it was fine but hitting the hills it struggled . A set of crash bars and forward pegs with a mustang seat gave me ample room to stretch my legs . I went from that to a Valkyrie. Now that had power but ,,,,, there was the absence of nimbleness. As a bobber ?? I can totally see the 750 being then perfect platform to cruise around town

Can you put that front end on a Shadow Spirit1100 without modifying the frame?

Mine lurches and kinda makes a grinding noise when I’m coming out of a stop in 1st gear. Other than that it runs great? Is my clutch slipping? Any suggestions?
@grj5124 ай бұрын
Get it up to moderate speed in 3, 4 or 5th gear and get on the throttle. If it revs then starts to accelerate it’s probably time for a clutch plate job. Did mine in about 1.5 hours. Pretty simple.

I had an 02 I laid down then replaced it with an 07. These bikes are so comfortable to ride. Both VT1100’s.

hey tj man i got a question and idk if im just being dumb or not, sorry if its a dumb question but i figured i’d ask, my shadow has a problem its a single carb but the slide wont move the throttle cable is connected there’s no slack in the line or anything, it ran fine awhile ago but one day it just wouldn’t move, is this a problem with the vacuum? i’d appreciate if you could get back to me, thanks man
@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS4 ай бұрын
Pull it apart man. Could just be some dirt in there🤷🏻♂️

@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMSso found out what was the matter, there was a small tear in the rubber boot for the slide, fixed that and it still wouldn’t start so i ended up bypassing the afp bc i seen in a video that it goes bad easy boom fired up with ease thank you man

@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS yea probably it's been a slow process for me to work on it with my life schedule but it only has 9000 miles when I bought it and now has a little under 13000 miles but it did sit in a basement for 10 years collecting dust when I bought it and the person rebuilt the carb before they shipped it down to me but also since I got it after the first 6 months I spent 6 months tracking down a fuel leak problem I thought was the carb but turned out being the fuel pump, been watching your videos the last few days to learn more on tuning and stuff since last time me and my step dad worked on tuning his old bike he gave me for graduation 11 years ago it ended in him catching it in fire

@edwardkeeter7624 ай бұрын
I think you'd want a 600 or the 750 Shadow RS, as those were both chain drive models and l think otherwise most shadows are shaft drive.
