Thanks for the wild and crazy content! I’m riding a 86 VT1100C. It’s totally stock and I love it that way. I’m 70 years old and bought it 15 years ago from the original owner. My only complaint is the suspension. I replaced the rear shocks and put seals in the front. The back end either bottoms out or is way too stiff. What can I do? You are fucking nuts and it makes me feel young again watching you. Been riding since 1967. Started on a Yamaha YDT1 250 two stroke. Had a couple CB350’s. I’ve got my uncles bike he passed away 10 years ago. A 73 CB750 and I’m still working on It. I have 8 bikes and the 86 is the newest. Sorry for writing a book! Keep your wheels turning!

@@RageUnchained I had an 05 Vtx 1300C that I got from a friend of mine. He bought it with 5k miles on it. Hyper Charger and the Vance and Hines pipes ( which we ended replacing under warranty due to cracks in the pipe on the front cylinder). It ran pretty well after the local dealer got through with it but seemed lacking in power and throttle response as the miles racked up. At 60+k miles I did a full service and rejet to my specs. Throttle response went thru the roof and his mileage saw a 15% increase. When David gave me the bike a few years later he told me he had taken it for a Dyno run after I did my work. Seems my mods made more power than the guys doing Dyno tuning. Loved that bike. 150k+ on it when I sold it.

The same lack of oil to the "top" [heads at the same elevation as the crank] end happens with the old BMW airheads. There used to be a strange fetish among airhead owners to get the idle as low as possible. Because of the opposed cylinders and a heavy flywheel they would still run pretty smoothly at 800 rpm. At that slow rate, oil pressure was low and the big oil users like bearings used all the pressure before any oil could get to the "top" end or the timing chain. Mysterious valve train and timing chain damage happened. So the low idle problem is more about crank and cam bearings using all the oil rather than, as in the case of the Shadow, the heads being way above the oil pump. [Elevation seems to really make no difference; it's all about oil volume]. Nice video, Hoss!

Similar for Harley’s, too. Too many riders turn the idle down so much that the oil pumps pressure is too low to move oil around. Plus, when idles are too low, don’t forget the engine needs to get up to enuf power to get going with your buds. The engine speed needed to even let the clutch out needs to get up way over the potato idle. My big twin idle is recommended at 950-1000 rpm from a fully hottened up engine. I will take it for a half hour toot and then adjust my idle as needed to set it.

Got a VTX1300, what would cause a slow, to no crank when hot? Seems like the starter can't turn over. I have a new proper CCA battery, starter solenoid and the previous owner put in a new starter. When cold, turns over with no problems, get it warmed up, and you might get one turn before the starter doesn't turn, clicks and seems to be locked up. I have checked the ground cable, the power cables to the starter, and solenoid for good connection and resistance all checked good. The bike has 21k 2004, Cobra pipes, a jet kit with the side scoop... as far as I know, all factory upgrades.

Excellent video, great insight and antics 🤣 I do have a question about how muffed I am with my 750c2b I was hoping for some input. She's been sitting for a couple years and I believe the engine is seized. I'm on day 2 of waiting for PB to drown the rings. I pushed a borescope down the cylinder and captured a video and was hoping you might be able to give any next-step-insight

Is there any way we can get a video for maintenance for the shadow? Idk what the mechanics do that they can charge what they charge.
@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS6 ай бұрын
You're not paying them for what they do. You're paying them for all their experience and the ability to do the job correctly and their ability to address anything that comes up along the way. You're paying them for having the correct tools to do a job and the knowledge how to use those tools. But a maintenance video might be a good idea!

@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS I 100% agree. Didn’t mean to sound like a dick face. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and I had my go to shop. I moved to Las Vegas a year ago and it’s like a crazy difference in pricing from local shops. I started doing my own maintenance but I know here’s more things that mechanics do that I don’t know about and I would appreciate the hell out of a maintenance video. Thank you guys!

Don't have a Shadow, but this video made me really interested in having proper idle speed for shadows. By the way , when going up the rev range from 900 to 1200 the sound changes significantly, can the sound itself be used to tune the idle speed?

if youve done it for 17 years, you can kinda get close, but even I prefer to use a tool to get it right.

Hey TJ, when your using that tach/hour meter and the bike is dual carbed. Do you have to test each ignition wire or doesn't matter which ignition wire it's placed on to set the idle.

Good video. Thank you! Can you answer one question I have - as Honda guy - I have 2008 vt750 with injection. Does it have something like an mass air flow sensor to detect the air volume it gets and mixes the gas accordingly to get the perfect air fuel mixture? Im planning to change out air filter to a more open one - can I do that without messing up the AFR?
