I love your channel. We're in the middle of a kitchen remodel after 23 years in this house. Rather than replace the cabinets, we painted them and bought new doors. We finally began installing the doors yesterday after being without for about a month...life got in the way after we painted. What a difference. The cabinets look brand new. Your estimate was spot-on. We spent about $2,000, including the new hardware, paint and supplies, instead of $5,000 for all new cabinets that would have been far more labor intensive. I made sure my most used utensils were pretty and I have them in see through glass vase that has mid century look to it. I have it, my cooking oil (which is in a minimal looking white bottle with a cork), and knife block on a pretty cutting board. The cutting board has a really pretty blue resin detail. The elevation from the cutting board and mix of materials and shapes makes this one of my favorite and most practical areas in my kitchen. I'm happy to know I was doing a few Kiva recommended tips before even watching ❤. You're the best! Excited for more.

Totally agree that vases are great for utensils. I keep my dish brush and soap shaker in a vase on the counter. I managed to find one that was a similar white to my subway tiles so looks chic but tidy.

We did our kitchen renovation two years ago. We had no idea what our style was at the time. I saved all picturess of beautiful modern white kitchens that we liked. Fast forward to the design meeting and we ordered black distressed shaker style cabinets a cream taupe and black quartz countertop, all white tile backsplash and I chose copper hardware for the cabinets. I think my kitchen would be Joanna Gaines' goth cousin.

Great tips KB! My kitchen is one of the reasons why l purchased my home. My cabinets are light grey with oil rubbed bronze hardware and a white quartz counter top. I love using wooden accents throughout my home to add warmth. I changed out the faucets and lighting throughout my home too to provide cohesion and flow. I have that same white utensil holder.

My cabinets are white wide shaker style cabinets and a backsplash is marble. My EVP is dark brown - track home package upgrade. I plan to do gray and white design through first floor since I just have kitchen living room and small breakfast area. Upstairs has all carpet with agreeable gray wall color with light n dark brown carpet so will go espresso colored furniture.bathrooms have gray tiles so sticking with gray since I have white cabinets. Lots of great ideas for my new build which I hope will be feast by end of this year if there are no further delays during COVID. So many shortage in supplies! Yikes

Great video! Question: how do you actually figure out what your ideal design style and color scheme is? I tend to just buy things that I like but they don't necessarily mesh well and I have a long way to go with picking stuff out for my home. Black and white is in pretty much every room but the 1st floor is black, white, gray and silver. My master bedroom, guest bedroom and office upstairs are very much black, white and gold. I feel like nothing flows 😔

you could try making a mood board. Pictures of colors you like, styles, motifs, and analyzing what you like about them could help you nail it down. And for what it's worth, it sounds like your home does flow color wise and it sounds lovely

I hear you when it comes to ideal design style and color scheme.....I tried color accent walls and I literally felt like I had walls closing in on me.....I think people are literally born with design and decorating know how. I am NOT one of them. My brain is 97% logical. The only shopping I enjoy is grocery shopping!!!!!. I have been stuck with remodeling my kitchen for 20 years. I have no idea what color goes with what so it doesn't look trendy or out of style within a year or less. I have hired 3 interior decorators over the years in different homes and it did not go well. They take their ideas and put them in your house using your monies. Decorators use these categories like transitional, contemporary, modern, etc., based on some furniture piece or art on a wall. The only thing I can relate to is open space and clutter drives insanity...... I should be some TV project on a budget so somebody can write a book....
