You made great points! 1. celebrity gossip - fully agree! 2. own weight in numbers - agree! 3. opinions of people who don't matter - I'm still guilty of that but more aware of it being unhealthy now 4. over-attachment to labels - absolutely agree! 5. following trends - proudly almost lost even the interest 6. finding the cheapest price - well, it can make sense _in moderation_ :) 7. receiving gifts - agree (if somebody wants to bring me a gift I tell them to bring some food I like) some of my personal additions would be: - ironing clothes - caring about what people think about my personal style

I remember when I was about 20 years old, walking through a mall wearing an outfit that made me feel really great, and having two girls about my age say snidely, "nice try". This made me feel terrible at the time, but many years later I have to ask myself why someone would want to say something that clearly has no intent except to make another person feel bad. The people who had negative things to say about your "empty" home, your weight, or anything else are doing just that. It's not easy to put these comments aside and refuse to let them get you down, but I hope you keep ignoring the haters and living your best life!

Thank you so much for creating these videos! While I am not a hoarder, we have accumulated so much stuff from previous marriages, our own marriage and 6 kids combined. And overspending on books, miscellaneous items I didn’t need. Your videos have helped me soooo much from motivating me to let go of items (why am I holding on to this?), to asking myself why before buying something, to creating a capsule wardrobe, to tracking expenses for creating a budget. As well as examine my online shopping habits and to change that. While I am in the early stages of this journey, sharing your story and watching your videos are helping me realign my values and habits that are actually a source of some of the chronic anxiety I experience. I’m very sorry that internet trolls like to criticize you, your lifestyle and content instead of simply scroll on by or unsubscribe. It’s the kind thing to do. Thank you.

My latest FitBit - and the 'connected' scale - are the next items I'm dropping! The Fitbit is getting glitchy and is no doubt on the way out (after less than 2 years of use BTW) and I've vowed I'm not replacing it with another device when it finally gives up. I've owned a few of these over many years and rather than inspiring me to be more active, they actually just add to my stress / sense of failure when I don't hit that 'magic' step or movement level each day and my weight refuses to shift (I'm looking at you, menopause!). I no longer care whether I hit a magic number - on my step count or my scale - but am focussed instead on consistency of (better) habits and feeling better overall. At 50 I think I deserve to quit caring about the societally-imposed beauty standards of others!

Im getting rid of my Apple Watch for the same reasons. I don’t like the electronic leash that it is reminding me that I should be getting up, get my steps in, etc. stresses me out too much. I just listen to body and if I feel like going on an extra walk I do. If I want to relax I do that too.

I'm trying to quit caring about my job, and all the demands that they all of sudden want, that have never been an expectation before. I have stayed with the job because it was a safe job, and it allowed me to do the things I love. Now the people in charge come across as toxic, and their actions show that they don't really care about us even though they tell us how much they appreciate us. I know it's not worth wasting my energy worrying about what they want, but I'm also a person who cares a lot about doing a good job. I have been trying to learn new skills so that I can go in a new direction, but it feels so difficult when I'm constantly mentally exhausted. I know that I am in control of my own life, and that living a positive lifestyle will lead to good things, however it's quite difficult trying to change from a more negative mindset to a positive one.

Thank you so much for this level-headed rational approach to life, over-consumption and minimalism. I think a lot of people’s lives would benefit if they were able to truly understand and gain some of those insights. It is also such a great point that overly sticking to the idea of being a “something” or doing something a certain way can really hold you back. Going about anything in a level-headed and rational way really is key I think 🤗
@isKatKatАй бұрын
Oh btw, re. the part about caring less about what other people think of you: I fully agree. I once saw an article online titled “No One Cares About You -- And That's Great” and it made me realise, that most people are too worried about how they look to the people around them (literally and metaphorically) to really truly care about what you look like, and that was like a lightbulb-moment for me. It really freed me up to worry less. It ultimately also made me realise that when we judge other people, it’s really because we judge and restrict ourselves. So it helps me be less judgemental of myself as well as other people ❤

I love these sit-down-talk videos... Maybe it's your voice or overall openness, but I've been in a bad place mentally and somehow your videos have a nice calming effect on me :) Quite the opposite of that on some hateful commenters you mentioned. I guess whenever we put outselves out there, there's always going to be 'lovers' and 'haters'. That's probably normal because all people are different and it's impossible to satisfy everyone's tastes at once - and there's no need to. I think it's enough if you enjoy sharing your experience, then the others can choose what they take from it, and that's it. There might also be a bias towards negative comments just because when people agree they feel less need to write about it as opposed to when they disagree. P.S. I am about to bring in the 'no gift' policy this holiday season but my family is quite old-fashioned so I am worried that they a) won't understand and b) will still buy some random stuff making me feel guilty that I am not preparing any presents :/

I love when you put out a new video! I agree 100% with this list. I have found so much peace through therapy and minimalism. I grew up in two co parenting homes. My mother and grandmother are hoarders and keepers of all the antiques. My father, was excessively clean and organized. From a young age, I knew I didn't want to be either. My grandmother is no longer with us and I kept a few antiques to treasure. We use them every day! A dining room table + chairs, desk, console table, and trunk from my great grandpa. It came from Ireland with him. ❤ I actually didn't own a dining room table until I got that table. We sat on floor pillows.

According to Dale Carnegie, people who criticize you in a mean way are doing so due to envy. Your videos represent happiness and calmness which causes people to be jealous and hateful because they don't have it or do not know how to get it. Thank you for this. Great tips. I especially agree with no 6. In the UK we have a shop called Primark which sells clothes etc. Some of the stuff is ok but I don’t always find the clothes very good quality. I’d rather buy it from M&S. Another example, batteries in Poundland are total rubbish. I’d rather pay more & buy Duracell etc. Even tho I’m single & live alone I still put loads of Christmas decs up but I don’t follow the usual trends of a Christmas Eve box, Elf on the shelf, gonks & gnomes & nutcrackers. Also, I put my decs up at the end of November & take them down around Jan 10th, whereas as some people take them down the day after Boxing Day. Dare to be different.

So many good tips on this video. I stopped buying magazines a long time ago, and stopped following celebs. The need to move house has meant that all those things have to be moved as well. It is an example of when you own it, it owns you as well. As for fashions stick with so called classics that never go out of fashion and therefore don't have to be replaced. My friends and I have an agreement that because we have most of what we want already, we don't exchange gifts. It's less fuss for all of us when birthdays and holidays role around.

Yah. Better help didn’t really help me tho. Then after I wasn’t happy and wanted to leave, they gave me a hard time about a prorated refund for what I paid ahead for and didn’t use. Quite frankly - when it comes to opinions regarding your own life, almost nobody should vocalize anything. It's your life and just you can decide what really matters and makes sense. Sometimes even well meant advices can be very toxic especially if you try to make changes to a "better you" and it feels off all the time. I think we have to respect each other with our flaws. We shouldn't be each other's projects which need to be fixed. I never understood how anyone thinks they know better how someone should lead their lives anyway. That's such a distructive thinking. Each person has it's own skills, limits, expectations, interests, etc. How should someone else but the person itself, know what's best? I'm a huge advocat of respecting people as they are as long as they don't do disruptive things to other people. No opinions needed.
