Cummin's does their compression test by hooking up a gauge that reads inches of water off the blowby tube. It works. we read 24" of water off a 4BT and that thing wouldn't even fire with ether. Modern diesels use the OEM software program to run compression tests based on amperage off the starter. Powerstrokes will have a high note spot when cranking over indicating injector issues or weak compression and the obvious hard start. Duramax's-leaking coolant-Blown head gasket and smoking indicating bad injectors.

1:25, that won't work on a 7.3 PowerStroke, looking under it I mean, the blow by tube runs back into the intake. Easy way to check is remove the oil filler cap, it's normal for diesels to have a little blow by, saying none isn't really correct and if your truck is COLD when you check this it will be far far less than if you checked it after it got up to operating temp. Valves/valve seals can also cause blow by not just rings. I've got a 2000 F350 just about to hit 724204k or 450000 miles, it has some blow by, but it doesn't mind 15-20k loads.

so, this video is true for low boost gen 1 12V 5.9S. NOT any other engines from the same years. Ford (navastar) and GM (detroit) both had indirect injection. That both have higher compression over Cummins. The other engines have much more blow by. Blow by is pretty normal. Neither have much in common other than burning diesel

ive seen quite a few powerstokes with blow and ran great but im a gas engine builder not a diesel only rebuilt just a few diesels but early model dodge 5.9 are less blow by just by witnessing that seeing it for my self but if you have a consistent hard flow of blow by then there is a real issue otw but a lil slow flow minor is kind of natural for powerstrokes thats just my experience not a 100% expert by far lol

Turbo play will be there when there is no oil pressure it's fine as long at the point that the fins of the compressor start to clash with the housing ... They have some movement even when brand New
@SirFloofy0016 жыл бұрын
They are not supposed to have any play at all, if they do then wherever you are getting them from is using cheap bushings or bearings. A tiny amount of play in a used turbo is fine but brand new i wouldn't even bother putting it on the engine, you risk blowing your seal and that leads to a run away engine.
@henryhenry9035 жыл бұрын

I won't recommend a powerstroke to anybody, but that is me. The 7.3 and 6.7 were decent but the 6.0 and 6.4 trucks are cheap because they are the least reliable diesel engine on the market. But that's just my opinion... Just google 6.0 powerstroke problems
@GodprefersDiesels7 жыл бұрын
Stay far away. The 6.0 was a fine engine by itself, but in the pickups, it has to run at a hotter temp to comply with emissions. They eat EGR coolers, and head gaskets. They are the worst diesel since the 5.7.

As usual, I enjoy watching your videos, when I get the time.
@bannereddivpool8 жыл бұрын
Few things to think about. The crank vent tube on the back of the 12v 6bt cummins it is normal to see smoke. You're always going to get moisture and water in the oil and you'll see steady condensation. If you take the oil fill cap off and set it back down over the hole and it dances you might have blow by. The best way to check this is to pull the fuel rail and injectors and just do a compression test on each cylinder. Cheap insurance so you're not left stranded. Holset turbos have tolerance for play, honestly that looks fine and I wouldn't worry about it. When oil pressure builds you'll get little to no shaft play up and down. If it's in/out then that is a different story.
@DEBOSSGARAGE8 жыл бұрын

Thanks for keeping it simple. I recently looked at a 2012 Ram w/6.7 and I found that it had a little back PSI at the oil fill cap as well as a little smoke. The cap would pop up into my hand at first release then perk a little bit as it sat and the engine idled. Anyway I told the guy it was a concern and he had his mech/friend on the phone in minutes. The mech. said he'd look at it the next day. That night I sent the seller a couple KZbin vids that show the oil fill cap test. And he in turn showed those to his mech./friend. The guy called me after the mech. told him it was probably due to the CC filter and he replaced that. The mech. emailed me saying he had full confidence in the truck and would buy it himself. I then asked what about the blow by. The mech.replied saying the test was not a good way to tell and didn't mean anything. He also says he performed pressure test on the engine before and after replacing the CC filter and both times the engine tested good. I hesitated to buy that truck and he sold it to someone else the next day, (it was a nice looking rig and priced decent). Was I right with my instincts or did I miss out on a good truck, and is it likely all it needed was the CC filter changed? It was a 3500 Laramie with 110k miles for 28,000.

i feel like I need to say that if you own a Diesel Truck in the United States and emissions equipment like the DPF have been deleted - Google "EPA fine individuals diesel emissions DPF delete". Yes, the EPA is going after individuals and not just shops or companies. Something like 8,000 individuals were fined several thousand dollars per person by the EPA in 2019. Where did they get the names? From the shops and distributors that sold the delete kits and which were investigated and fined by the EPA. It's part of the settlement agreement to give up the customer lists. If you sold or traded in your deleted diesel to a company or private party - at any time that other party can notify the EPA and you will become a Defendant in a Federal Case. And it doesn't matter if you told the buyer that you deleted emissions equipment and they bought the vehicle anyway. You can't transfer criminal liability.

Should i worry if theres "puffing" out of the oil filler cap? I've always thought it was blow-by but it's a low milage engine and it doesn't smoke in any way.
