In Megaton, if you have negative karma you can also recruit Jericho as a companion. No idea they'd tell you to make the useless Rock It Launcher but not recruit Jericho.

First order of priority is retrieving Dogmeat so he can fetch the alien blaster without triggering the terrible Mothership Zeta DLC. Once you get the alien blaster feral ghoul reavers, super mutant overlords, deathclaws, etc are about as threatening to you as a raider with a tire iron.

Don't get the bobbleheads that raise the special stats until you hit level 30 if you have the dlc and can get the perk that boosts all your specials to 9. Then the bobbleheads will bring them all to 10.

Best thing to do first right away is go to operation anchorage mission if you have the doc and exploit the weapons & ammo glitch to have unbreakable weapons and a huge supply of ammo for the rest of the game and other dlc
