I’ve watched a lot of videos about tiny houses, and I’m genuinely confused. I know most people buy a tiny house to leave a smaller footprint and for economic reasons. But the most Earth friendly home by far is the one that’s already built. I can almost guarantee you that you could go and buy a used single wide mobile home for less money than you spent on the tiny home. It would take zero resources because it’s already built. It would have at least two bedrooms and be roughly twice the size of the one you have. You can move it the same as the tiny home. I’m truly confused why more people don’t do that…can some one enlighten me. I don’t want to hear from mean people or trolls. I want to have a genuine conversation.❤️🐝🤗

I’ve often wondered the same thing. AND, the bedrooms are all on the first floor. Oh, ANDDDD, it’s a NICE.SIZED.BATHROOM. Oooh, and looky here, if I stand with legs apart and arms outstretched…I can’t touch each wall. But, BUT, house is still ‘tiny’. And nowadays, darn ‘tiny’ houses go for 140k. Um…that’s not a savings to basically reside in a fort.

I agree with you! But I think you can move your tiny home to many locations unlike a mobile home. If you are thinking of going permanent, then mobile home would be the way to go.

Mobile homes aren’t built as well or insulated better than their tiny home, I wouldn’t have a tiny home without a wood stove either.

I could live in a tiny home if, the bedroom was on the main floor (climbing stairs for most seniors is a no go) and a full fridge, stove and stackable washer/dryer.

First floor bedrooms are do-able. The county told us to put our small home on a slab in northern Minnesota. It just gets cold up there! We are putting in radiant floor heating. I can’t wait till this project starts!

An idea for light blocking at your french doors, put a curtain rod above the door frame and hang some heavy light blocking curtain panels. When you don't need them, push them to one side and secure with a tie. Then when the sun is bothering you, just unhook and pull shut. Problem solved cheaply and easily.

Actually Ikea sell total blockout curtains suitable for movie rooms which are as light as a feather. They could be hung on a rod which is on Command hooks.

Instead of windows, you could add mirrors. It would reflect the light you have coming in, give you a design feature. Put a full length mirror above the cupboard on its side behind the plants. Adding tint to your glass door will help to “block “ some of the sun. I have looked at both lofted and single floor plans and lofted ones are hard on my knees as well as my head! Your video was very helpful and informative though. Thank you for sharing!

I could manage with a 10 foot wide by 30. And yes a downstairs bedroom would be a must and a lot of storage.

In the U.S. @ Lowe's, you can get the " "blinds attatchment window" to your patio door, as my mother did. She loves them , they look like the door was made with internal blinds. She has never regretted the purchase. Looks great.

Get a shower curtain rod and tension it on the sliding door frame and put up some curtains, jeez...

I’ve never understood why those who have a loft bedroom don’t just have a lower ceiling downstairs so the loft isn’t basically a fancy crawl space.

You guys just chose the wrong floor plan, incredible tiny homes has homes with living rooms and bedromes on the first floor, they have a lot of female viewers who don’t like stairs so he made homes with bedroomes

@@SpicyGramCracker I recently watched a few videos of ITH homes where I thought they had somewhat claustrophobic floor plans and seemed overpriced--but that's just my random opinion. These homes need a way to prevent moisture buildup and many do, but some have no ventilation in the bathroom and in some of those I'm foreseeing steam in the entire house. There are ways to deal with this but may add a bit to costs. Also, it appears that ITH is now charging a one-time (I think) fee of $30,000 to live in one of their villages, in addition to a monthly lot rental fee (which is normal). I did see a video of a couple though who added their own touches and it turned out super nice. Should probably check their videos out for more info. The couple chit-cheats overmuch but you can forward to the nitty-gritty. I get why Getlostandwander was vague about them...the company's business methods seem to have shifted recently.

Consider removing the covering from the bottom of the extensions and adding multiple layers of EPS foam board insulation directly to the underside of the floor...it should help warm it up in there and you could potentially go a bit lower with the board, seal it up with an extra plywood surround with vapour barrier (or Zip-r sheathing) and paint to give extra thickness for really really cold days...

Sherpa blankets r incredible ..make a sleeping bag or down comforter A JOKE ! ...Highly recommend to *even sleep in* SHERPA jacket /pullover *WITH A HOOD* .. with sherpa it better be cold or you will sweat in it. I sewed my sherpa blanket into giant sleeping bag/pillow case but dont sew all the way to the top to get in out easily and if you get too toasty

I wonder if you could add a wood Pergola of sorts. Like straight beam and some out boards if that makes sense, sorry I don't know the term but it looks really cool and modern. It could go above your front door and run that side of house or just part of it. Kinda narrow and long, not for shade, just to break up the flat wall, n look cozy/homey.

I think it's a trade off and if there are more things about your home that you like than what you didn't like about your old home then you've made a good decision. Moved last September and the only things I would change about the home is the kitchen - It needs better use of the space made, tbh, and the washing machine and fridge/freezer are in the garage so I would modernize it if we weren't renting it. I would also modernize the bathroom because the bath is too narrow and have a door to the back garden put in so it's easier to let the dog out. But it's a far cry from the flat we were living in before which we could hardly move around in, it needed a lot of work doing on it, especially the windows, central heating and the ominous black mould growth that we didn't even know was there until we moved a desk. There wasn't a lot we could do about the neighbours, either, who were the main cause of stress and I can put up with the imperfections here because I don't have the stress that they induced to contend with. I also wish we lived somewhere where there was less vehicle traffic and had easier access to places where I could take the dog for a walk - multiple places where I could take him before we moved were really the only positives about it.

It would be possible to design a house with a roof that can be raised once it's put into a long-term location. That would give you greater ceiling height in the loft.

Are there replacement glass door panels with blinds inside that can be switched with what you have?

They are not only quite expensive, but moisture can build up between the glass panels as they get older. I still really like them though.

You could use those metal pipes I saw, and put curtains up over the glass door, and tie backs for when you want the light.

A space blanket can fix the French door curtain problem in a second for almost free. It's light. It reflects the Sun back and it isn't transparent either, so you get privacy during the day in case you need it. It also helps to keep the house cooler. Just cut to the right size and tape it on the door frame in season.

This was so helpful in making some design choice ideas, if I could ever go tiny. I never realized that the cantilevers on both ends would be such a problem area. I am curious about the mini split, does it give off enough heat for the entire space?

I’ve only seen one video featuring a roof that can be raised to full height when parked. I thought that it was a brilliant improvement, but it didn’t seem to catch on. I’ve not seen a second one.

Goose necks might be a great option to consider! We aren't saying they are the best option, but definitely do your research on them. They do have good and bad about them, just like everything 😁

I definitely will…my primary reason, is as you mentioned, the stand up aspect for the bedroom area…and I will enclose the area beneath as a bit,of an outdoor storage area but will certainly consider the wind/cold getting beneath and around the sides as you noted with your bump outs…extra insulation will be a necessity!

I love a gooseneck. They offer great storage below as well. Strangely, you rarely see them.

@@lauriebrown9714 Me too! And they offer the headroom in the bedroom as well. I’d feel much better having a gooseneck hauled long distance from the builder to the final property location as well…safer and more stable on a long haul. Years ago when I showed horses I hauled a bumper pull 4 horse and also a gooseneck 8 horse trailer. The difference in pulling a bumper pull vs a gooseneck that was larger was night and day. I have no intention of moving my tiny once it’s settled…but I’ll feel much better knowing the hauler will have a more stable drive to my property from the factory.

In northern BC why would you want more windows, right after you talk about the cold? When I want daylight, I walk about 5 steps and go outside.

The cold itself isn't an issue. It's the cold agains our loft extensions. More windows in our home might cost us a few dollars more in the winter to heat but to let the extra light in would be nice. We do a lot of filming in our home for content creation and light is very important for that, and also as we mentioned, our plants would appreciate it too 😁

Any plans for expanding the outside? Like a covered screened/covered porch or patio or anything? The long days would be awesome when you can be comfy outside. Also, the enclosed blinds would be awesome, especially with pups lol. I have lost more sets of blinds to the Beagle trying to get something outside than I would like to admit lol.

I saw one tiny house where the couple lowered the loft above the living room area so that they had more head space in the sleeping loft, but their doors were placed in a different area. I am a big fan of windows as well. And you guys live in a beautiful area, I would want to gaze out the window down as much as possible, especially on those -45 days that we had.

How do you find places to park these? Its been impossible to find parking. Ive been looking for years. Aside from eco villages (which won't allow me to have running water in my home) i cant find a place anywhere to park. Id love to find a rent to own deal on one of these where i wouldnt have to move it elsewhere. A normal sized place is too big for me, im on my own and im getting old, so a large space doesn't make sense for me

In ontario so far we have 3, 12 month parks for tiny homes. Other parks that house, RVs, small homes, and tiny homes are only 9 month residency so everyone must vacate Nov, Dec, Jan. Otherwise ypu have to rent private land on a farm or such and go off grid for utilities, or pay to bring in the lines for water, power, sewer. And that's the barrier for so many of us interested In homes.

You would need to do a search for tiny home communities. Some are very nice and some are similar to trailer parks. Some are okay and some are gorgeous. There's most likely always a monthly rental for the lot, but may be other services provided for the fee. If you own a home to sell later, that's like money in the bank. A tiny is not. That's what's stopping me unless I choose to rent my house out, which I have done in the past. You just need "good" renters or you're risking damage to your home. I was shocked to find a lovely tiny home community in Pennsylvania and there are several in Tennessee. In many areas in the U.S., the zoning of property doesn't allow for for the addition of a tiny home.

I'm not sure about the foundation of your tiny home, but if it's on wheels, can you turn it around for different natural lighting? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I would never live in a tiny home. I lived in a 950 sq ft home with a husband and 3 children for many years until we could afford a 1400 sq ft home. 950 sq ft is not big enough for growing kids. It’s just ridiculous, never again.

Such a shame that a amount of money could bought you a caravan that could have moved to a warmer climate. You don't mention the ventilation..which causes mould. So if you live in a super cold climate..everything will be affected. This application and and approach should be recommended to poeple and families livivg in a median climate..as Small Houses is definitely for 1pers😢

I'm confused why you like this house. These regrets are too many and too serious to provide a mentally comfortable life. Two years did you say you've been living here? Chickens inside the house? Bird feathers, feed, sawdust is not healthy for humans to breath in that dust. Can't you have some type of shed....thing...outside? I have seen some tiny homes with a first-floor bedroom that you can walk into. What a novel idea. Good luck.
