Best video I've ever watched on guiding future architects, I can see your passion for guiding these young people like me. I'm 18 years old and going to study architecture this school year. I took notes while watching the video, I hope you like it. Learn about History - Make a video playlist on Architectural History "use Mooch's playlist." - Watch and take notes on those architectural history documentaries - While studying Architecture at school, the history will always be referenced - Get involved in the career to be more inspired to learn about the topics Book Recommendations - The Short Story of Architecture --- It is divided into 4 categories (Different Styles, Different Buildings, Different Elements, & Different Materials) --- It has 1-2 pages per topic with picture and summaries - History of Architecture From Classic to Contemporary --- It gives short summaries on architectural Styles Learn Design - 3 ways to learn design (By Watching, By learning about it, & By Doing) - Watch how architects work and design - Make a video playlist about designing (Use Mooch's Playlist) - Watch the fun ones now, set aside the boring ones for later - Take note of what interests you the most - Have a sketchbook with you while watching Practice Sketching - if you're not good at sketching, then that is the point PRACTICE - don't do perspectives/3 dimensional objects yet to avoid discouragement - don't focus too much on complicated things because it can get too overwhelming - make a video playlist about sketching (Use Mooch's playlist) - watch to learn the techniques used ---the architect's on the videos are not focused on making their lines perfectly straight and making perfect sketches - techniques on making the shadows and color make the sketches good - practice sketching trees and people the easiest and fastest way - Sketch some floor plans, thicker lines for the walls, thinner/lighter lines for the door swing - Sketch on your own hand, always hand sketch - Create a video playlist on architects making their own floor plans - Learn different techniques on how to draw materials Learn Programs - 3 programs to learn (Sketchup, AutoCAD, & Rhino) Save Money Some of these came from my own words but are based on the videos. Sorry if I missed any valuable topics, but please add more to the replies if you know more. Thank you

Learn Revit, learn building code, become obsessed with creating digital models that reflect actual buildings. I just fixed a building where the architect didn’t account for 1/4” FRP panels on each side of a corridor. Earlier this year I had to fix a design where the interior granite wall extended past the curtain wall to the exterior. Architect didn’t account for the difference in thickness of the granite inside and out. Working now to redesign a residential project where the architect didn’t get a site plan for a large remodel and extension. House was 1.5 feet inside the 5 foot setback. Late last year redesigned a large assisted living facility because the kitchen placement left the exhaust fan, makeup air, and evaporative cooler in view from the main entry…. Know code, know how things are constructed, know how to get it into a model… I mean get into that now and during school and after graduation.

if you're learning auto cad you should *only* be using keyboard shortcuts. you should try and aim to use your mouse as little as possible in autocad to be as efficient as possible. i'm two years in and i don't even know where most of the tools are in the toolbars
@christopherhasty86974 жыл бұрын
Everyone has their preferences. I'd say that you're better off using toolbars only for things you do constantly if the command is long or awkward to type. You're generally not going to type faster than you can click one button on a mouse. I predominately use keyboard commands, but toolbars have their use too. If you're looking through menus for commands that's super-slow. I only do that if it's something I almost never use and don't remember the command. (Coming from 20 years experience in CAD as a land surveyor)

I'm currently at a community college and I plan on transferring to a University in a few years. I've really been pondering what I want to do for the past few months. I started with Communications, then changed my major to to Graphic Design, but after taking a few Art History courses I started to fall in love with buildings and how they were structured (especially because of the Gothic style Cathedrals in France). I'm kind of taking a leap of faith by going in this new direction so suddenly, but watching videos like this is helping my nerves calm down a little. I guess I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. And for those who still don't know what they're doing or can't figure it out, just know it's okay to experiment. It takes time to find something that makes you passionate, but it's a process you shouldn't rush. Have a nice day

I don't really understand why everyone says I need to learn Rhino, Revit, Sketchup and so on, why can't I use something like 3ds max, Maya or blender?
@Moochers4 жыл бұрын
By all means, learn 3ds Max, Maya, or Blender first. But it's kind of like trying to ride a bike for the first time. They'll say try with training wheels first. You don't HAVE to. But you should. If you want to sleep the wheels cause you feel they will hold you back, then you have that right. It's just a general rule of thumb. 😃🍻
@bogdanavramenko98724 жыл бұрын
@@Moochers yes but is sketchup and co. better for architecture than blender and co? Are there some unique functions which help doing architectural renders? 🙂🥨🍻
@Moochers4 жыл бұрын
@@bogdanavramenko9872 Blender in my opinion is the best for Rendering and animating. I've never used the program so I'm not sure if it's good for architecture but I've see then results of movies and renders made from it and it's incredible. I've used 3ds Max and Maya. Both are amazing for rendering and creating "organic" architecture. I found that 3ds Max was best for making architecture. Maya felt better for making objects like jewelry. Both programs, I only used for about 1 month or two each though so I am no expert. Revit is the most effecient program I've run into. It creates all the plans while you make the model. In other words, you just focus on building the 3D and it creates all the plans for you. Simply amazing. But Revit architecture tends to be very orthogonal. If you want to create crazy shapes, it will be tough unless you can dominate it's mass modeling or learn to use Dynamo (which I have not). Short answer to your question, they all work , they are all tools, it depends what your style is and what you want to accomplish.

Thank you very much, i think i will continue using blender until i run in to a problem which i cant solve with it :)

I heard that so often in school. I don't mind what others say about things that I like. I like Bjarke. His designs might not be as sophisticated as other architects, but what I love is that he's been able to get away with creating buildings that not most people could. A lot of architects might say they don't want his buildings, that they are an eye sore, that they don't work. I personally enjoy having buildings that don't look like the rest every once in a while.
