Control from Remedy Entertainment had a very nice fake-out ending after a massive twist (that would've been for a gut-wrenching cliffhanger) where the credits start to roll. It doesn't take long though for names in the credits to be replaced by "Leave" and "Leave your insides by the door" and other rambling messages that cross margins like "Push your fingers through the surface into the wet"... and as the credits continue to roll, words just bleed together, become distorted, and eventually bleed out into a white screen... which then drops main character Jesse Faden into a nightmarish white collar desk job at the FBC.

I know I'm a few years late, and this is more of a "level complete" than a "game over," but the Cuphead DLC has a fake Knockout. At the "end" of the level Bootlegger Boogie, the word "Knockout" appears on a piece of flypaper with a couple of flies stuck to it while a high-voiced announcer says, "Knockout!" A few seconds later, the flypaper goes away, and a snail pops out from under the hat of the anteater you just defeated and starts attacking you by laughing at you through his megaphone. He only takes a few hits before the actual knockout screen, and the actual announcer clears his throat before saying, "Knockout!"

One of my favorite ones is from PlayStation one. The game Sheep Raider (aka Sheepdog and Wolf) is a Looney Tunes game where you play as Ralph the wolf ( somewhat resembles Wile E. Cyote) and you have to steal sheep from Sam the sheepdog. At start, you have a few signs to read. You come across one that asks if you want to continue. If you answer no an anvil drops on your head and the question is repeated (this can occur as many times as you want if you do not answer yes). After you answer yes, the game brings on an animation of the roadrunner speeding past you, a few pratfalls and a black close out screen to tell you the game is over. Since it is the very beginning of the game, I don't think many would have believed it was actually game over though. It is also worth mentioning that Daffy Duck acts as a tutorial. When you get the use of dynamite, if you set it off next to Daffy, he will proceed to sarcastically laugh and then punish you with a timeout of which you cannot control anything in the game until he says. When the punishment is over he follows by saying he hopes that you learned your lesson.

@@scottlundy8295 No, nuclear bombs detonate through nuclear fission due to the fact that they detonate through the splitting of the atom and the definition of fission is the act of dividing something into 2 or more parts. Fusion is when 2 atoms merge together making a larger, heavier atom.

The most genius one in Batman Arkham asylum was when scarecrow (who makes ypu see your worst fears) attack the bat several times, the first 2 was typical batman fears (dead friends, zombie parents ect) but the 3rd time you hear the gas they go over board bringing froth YOUR fears. Starting with a crashing disc and starting the game over with only minor clues that its a trick like an upside down bat symbol and a sign "crossing batmans maybe escaping patients" after that you are being tied up and shot in the face with the gane over screen hint saying "use the center stick to avoid gunfire." It took me a min to realize ther is no center stick. Hitting retry wakes him up in scarecrows 3rd nightmare world.... Not cool scarecrow

the fake game over in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team took me by surprise. on Mount Pajamaja there is a fountain appropriately named the "Mount Pajamaja Fountain." the game gives the the option to drink from the fountain, if you do, it will trigger a scrolling text story starting off with how much Mario and Luigi loved the taste of the water, and eventually ending in a game over. After the game over screen plays, it is then revealed that the entire story was a dream sequence induced by the fountain water, and the water actually fully restores your HP and BP

Kingdom Hearts 2 should have been in this, it’s like the best game series ever and if you loose on certain boss fight in Beasts Castle The screen goes black like normal and if you choose “I wont give up” over “game over” (which never happens) King Mickey comes out of nowhere, you play as him, fight the enemies at blinding speeds while waking Sora back up to “revive” him. Even if you dye as mickey Sora and the party come back still with half HP and MP. So sick⚡️
