Why is red brick incomparable with concrete for lifting wire?

Good question. You see this all this time in concrete working but for certain you should not use red brick. They expand and contract at different rates than concrete, block or stone. When clay bricks get wet they will absorb water and can crack the concrete. Use plastic chairs or concrete blocks for lifting steel.

Hi Steve, love your videos. I came across you while researching pools and again while researching how to pour a concrete footing. I’m a retired 60 year old dude, never worked with concrete before (ever…) and I want to pour concrete footings (one at each corner) to set my 20’ X 8’ storage container on. I want to slightly raise the container by setting it on four footings to allow airflow underneath the container. I am making 2’ X 2’ forms out of 2 X6 lumber, over 14” deep holes. I want to add rebar to strengthen my footing. What do you think? Is my footing too deep and what type of concrete do you suggest I use? I was going to use 6000 lbs concrete.

I am old school and like steel rebar. Yes the FG stuff is a lot easier to load onto the trucks and deliver to the jobsite but I also am used to bending my own bars for construction and that is something I dont like about fiberglass bars.

I’m having a 14x20 concrete floor poured in an old barn. After it dries I’m going to put two by sixes across it and put down a floor using old ship lap siding from another old barn. My Question is should I put plastic down ( what thickness) before I pour the concrete? Thanks for the advice. Bill

Can concrete cure too slowly? For example dry pour slab in a moist humid environment or retaining walls using unopened bags of concrete?

moist and humid environment will only help the concrete to cure stronger, so much so that you could submerge the concrete in water completely which it cures and it would only be better for it.
