I live in Siberia and here we have a forest species of strawberry that has really small berries, but they have a very strong smell and taste. I planted this strawberry on my windowsill this spring. 3 plants have grown so far.

@@exxolight It depends. If the plant receives enough sunlight and if you harvest later in summer, yes, they are sweet. If it is growing in the shade, the weather is cool and rainy and you harvest early, then they may be bland.

Thank you. We had to get an 8 in 1 Birdies bed for the Strawberries for 2 reasons: 1 there was no more room in the garden area which is protected from hungry critters out here In SW Arizona and 2 the raised bed protects the Strawberries from those same hungry critters. We did get another Birdies bed for the Sweet & White potatoes. We had our two well water tanks replaced so we cut the old ones in half, drilled holes in the bottom for drainage and we can now use them for raised beds to plant more veggies - yeah - that is why I save everything - there will always be a use for many many things most people throw away. In Florida the cockroaches love mulch. Mulch cannot be used.

Thanks for a great video. I have started growing strawberries from seed that I got from fresh strawberries which looked great. I am now at a point where I get a great deal of strawberries and I am happy with my results. I do not use sprays as that penetrates the fruit and ii is normally harmful to humans as well. I have planted yellow daisies which acts as an natural insect repellent and it really works great. Maybe you should try it as well.

This last week+ we’ve been harvesting strawberries from our raised bed! It took 2 years to get established (ex: deer damage) enough for fruiting but its been well worth the wait! Our plan is for it to fill the entire bed as the years continue (God-willing). Thank you for sharing and for the great tips! 💫🍓

Deer are one of the worst pest for us. I have prayed that you will get to eat the fruit of your labor. Deer have done a lot damage to a lot of my crops and trees.

Pine needle straw is helpful for strawberries too if you have any concern about alkalinity. Some of the 'holes' may have been made by birds, and we use them by just cutting that spot out. Of course commercially you are correct no one will buy them.

Everything sounds great, I love Jag's videos and I will plant my strawberries and spinach tomorrow but please, please, please do not use spinosad as it kills bees!!!! There are other less harmful to the bees ones that can be used instead!!! And never use spinosad sprays on flowers. One bee can pollinate a flower, go home and that can destroy a whole colony :(

How did you harvest the strawberry seeds ?

@@juliawei8990 I bought seeds from Amazon (don't do that, most of the seeds I got were bunk, these and my alpine reds were the only good seeds I got). Now when I give seeds I just freeze a strawberry for a couple weeks and scrape the seeds off. (strawberry seeds generally need to be frozen for a couple weeks before they'll germinate). Hope that helps. They're delicious.

I bought an unnamed, hanging strawberry plant that was on sale in the spring thinking maybe I can keep it alive until next season. I gave it a little love and next thing I knew it was producing berries! After 2 transplants, it is now in a 20 gallon bucket living it's best life and has been growing crazy big and giving me little batches of berries all summer. So I am going to guess it is everbearing. I did not know about the runners, and recently found one that is growing 2 little plants. I have left them alone for now, but can I make new plants from them? And how?

I have been learning you can propagate pretty much any plant of any kind,even some that may appear to be dying! So for that being said, do alil research and I strongly believe you will find the answer to this question and some more info to help you along your way!Happy gardening!😉

Get a toothpick and carefully bend it two times to get an U shape, use it to gently stick the runner to the soil. Try to not damage the runner, only keep it on the surface enough time for it to root. Keep the soil moist. It is important to wait about 4-6 weeks before pruning the umbilical cord that connects the runner with the mother plant. Once the runner has roots, it can live independently, be sure to give it time to grow sustainable roots. Avoid covering the top of the plant with soil, keep the new leaves free to grow and breathe.

STRAWBERRIES with "holes", can be DE-seeded- composted, chopped up for chicken feed/treats, etc etc! Don't just "throw them OUT!" Take the seeds off and you'll get more strawberries!👏

Hello from south Alabama! Really liked your video. Recently, I began acquiring fruit trees. Mostly Satsumas. Couple Naval Oranges as well. I'm trying to approach my fruit development in a holistic way. Want to create a way to have fruits throughout the year. Most strawberries here are abundant in spring. I have as available abundant organic material. Horse manure and sawdust mostly. Oak leaves too. Your video is so easy to understand and very enjoyable. Being senior citizens, we want to make available to our neighborhood a sourse for organic grown fruits. Strawberries are a favorite here. Hope to learn much from you. Really like Albion strawberries, very sweet, easily the best strawberries I ever tasted. Trying some others this year. Last years junebearing should be making berries here soon. A little bit of good compost is all you need. Mulch is important. Runners like crazy. Buy a few plants and a year or two later you can have hundreds of plants.

Seascape is a good variety. This year I'm trying Shuksan which is June-bearing, but I plan on getting one or two everbearing varieties too so I can have them year 'round. I grow hydroponically, so that avoids bugs.

I had a wonderful garden last year, but it was missing strawberries. I started some from seeds that I bought as a set from the store, I sowed a few just to make sure that I had good germination rate. They all germinated and then none made it to adult plant. They take too long to grow from seeds, so this year hopefully I'll get a sucker from the garden center. Thank you for sharing! He picks the a little early, in my opinion. I like to refrain from picking them until they are DEEP red from top to bottom. That indicates that they are blood red all the way to the center. Maximum flavor. And the plants still produce tons of fruit when I do this.

I let my runners do their thing. The mother plants in Virginia usually die out. I go through and remove all the dead roots. They've multiplied in to about 50 plants now. Most are pinnacle, but I cannot find those anymore. I've been replacing bare spots with quinault. There may be a few ozark beauties in the mix. I have wire fencing to keep birds, groundhogs, and deer out.

I have a strawberry 🍓 bed and I have about 5-6 total and they are growing alot of green big leaves, a few berries but some berries have brown bad shots on them. Which are not good to eat. So I'm going to use one of ur secrets to kill any disease my plants may have with the Hydropoxide and water 💧! I have alot of runners n newbie 0lants growing as well. I want that though and at the end of the season I will separate plants n replant them. I need to fix my whole strawberry 🍓 garden but I want to fill up the bed with a few more plants n start another bed. We love strawberries but we gotta figure out if we have something else going on with some of my plants.

I don't remember the variety but I have a dozen or so ever bearing strawberry plants from a few years ago and adding about 20 new plants this year also ever bearing. They're watered in the mornings at least and again in the evening on hot days. I'm up in Ontario but it still gets over 100F in the summer with humidity. How do you fertilize in years after planting? And do you have any suggestions for plants that can sometimes get very tall with flowers, produce berries but then don't seem to grow much afterwards?

hello jag I have rented a piece of land for a long time on a vegetable garden complex that is next to the meadows and the grass is fertilized regularly and the fertilization therefore also runs into the ditch water that we use for our vegetable gardens good for the vegetables but how good is this for the strawberries? i also have raingutter water in my 1000L water tank what is your advice ? allways ditch water or allways rain water or do i mix it up what is the best way for plants and what is the best way for seed lings i wanted to plant them in pots with tubes zo i can grow in hight and to put the strawberries in the green house during the winter time hoping for 12 months of strawbeerys what do you think wil it work ? best regards Anton

I could be wrong, but many people where I live probably would not notice those little worm holes 7:17 and would just eat them anyway. I think anyone would be fine eating them. I guess for the weak of stomach they could be turned into jam which would kill anything that could be harmful to consume.

Wouldn't the rows be 10.39 inches (sqrt(3)/2 * 12") apart if the strawberries are planted on the vertices of a 12"x12"x12" equilateral triangle? Great video. Lovely arrangement.

I think a bird feeder is helpful because the birds will eat bugs in your garden. While people are obsessed with prevention by elimination it should be known that a better way to improve things is with inclusion

nice. in a backyard situation one may be able to grow them next to a fence or building, such that they only get morning sun. that way the dont get too hot and no need for mulch, which can harbor pests. i use 20-20-20 +TE water soluble fertilizer. unless you have many plants, at least 20 or more, pickings will be few and far between. for this reason, i may phase them out. too much hassle and space taken up by a dozen plants, for tiny pickings.
