One of the things a lot of narrators on youtube over look is transition sounds & timestamps. It's a small thing but it makes a big difference. The stories easily bleed together and makes them hard to find if you fall asleep or got distracted.. Even bigger channels don't always do it or do it in a way that kills the mood. The transition sound has become an iconic part of the let's read experience. I love the sound and wonder where he found it. Its calming and doesn't ruin the mood or make your heart jump. I heard one once where it was a loud witches cackle or something like that and it made so i couldn't really fall asleep to it because it would jump scare you. This is one of the ways joel puts extra effort in for us. Thank you. 🎀🌷

The first one broke my heart . . . . The interesting thing with these stories is that sometimes, instead of sending chills down my spine, they make me cry, laugh, or even make me angry. And there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, fear is in the eye of the beholder, I bet the first story spooked plenty of people. Wonderful work, Lets Read.

I always approach videos that say "true story" with caution because i believe thats exactly what it should be, a true story!. Stories that involve someone who somehow gets seperated from the group and encounter someone scary or a scary situation and when they get back to the group the dont tell them anything about what they saw? Who the hell would do that? If i saw a man in the woods in the middle of nowhere you better believe my camp is gonna hear about it when/if i get back. I hear so many "true" stories where the narrating character says the same thing.

It doesn't help any more than it would if they slipped the details in when and where they're needed, a sign of good writing. But some of these writers are so ridiculously awful- I just hope they keep writing, keep practicing and take all the constructive criticism they can get. Criticism such a -start the story with... THE STORY and add details as necessary. Beginning your story with an introductory paragraph "setting the scene" may not bother those unfamiliar with editing/literary norms but for a lot of us even including those unfamiliar, it's annoying, unnecessary, and takes away from the story. You want to draw people in with the first few lines, not bore them away by sounding more like an architect than an author.

Story # 2. Imagine having such little self-awareness that you intrude on a stranger's cabin armed with a rifle, and you think he's the crazy one for being paranoid. The guy comes in to find an armed man sleeping in his cabin. How would anyone react? Think about coming into your home to find an armed stranger in your bed. But, somehow, he's the bad guy. Number 4 is genuinely disturbing, if only because of the narrator's absolute lack of concern at learning that all of the adults in his neighborhood, (likely including their parents and their friend's parents} are callous, ruthless murderers. Like.... yeah, one of the adults got beaten up and pistol whipped, but he's still alive. The whole neighborhood responded to that by burning down a building with 6 people in it??? and everyone's just totally fine with that?? that's fucking insane and terrifying.

When I was doing my training and schooling to become an EMT I had to do a short amount of clinical work at a trauma center and on an ambulance with 2 paramedics. When I started at the trauma center my first patient had died while getting an MRI. I had been tasked to go with an ER tech to bring her back to her trauma suite in the ER and when we started to transfer her back to the gurney that is when I pointed out that she wasn't sleeping and that I believed that she had passed. Quickly my suspicions were correct. Over course we started life saving measures that were unsuccessful. We notified the family and after they finished saying their goodbyes, I was then tasked with helping to put her into the mortuary bag and the air in her lungs rushed out and psst her vocal chords which caused her to make this unnerving groaning that almost sounded like the word help. I ran out of the room into the hallway panicking. No one had warned me about this. Not my instructor. Not the ER tech. Not any of the nurses or doctors. I knew about them possibly evacuating their bowels and bladder but not that. I quickly regained my composure and shakily finished up. Afterwards I was able to see how humorous it had appeared seeing me run out of the room at warp speed saying, "NO, NO, NO, NO WAY IS THAT NORMAL! " Everyone had gotten a good laugh at my expense but then again so did I. No one had really thought that it was something to tell me and I can see how it could slip their minds to tell me especially with everything else that I was expected to learn to save someone's life, while that was something rather minor that will occur after someone passes. I wasn't trying to minimize the patients passing by any means by telling this story either because every life is important and one of many reasons why I chose this profession.
