7 Underrated Alberta Ski Hills You Should Check Out

Alberta's history with the sport of downhill skiing goes back almost a century ago, and is still engrained in the Albertan culture today. While Alberta has many world-class destination resorts, there are other, smaller resorts that often get overlooked. This video will go through 7 underrated ski resorts in Alberta (in my opinion). Whispering Pines is one of the coolest ski hills around. The area is beautiful, the runs are all in the trees and the lodge is cool with pictures on the walls of the areas history. And yeah those cinnamon buns are really good!

If you make an underrated resorts video for Quebec, I'd highly recommend you put Mont Ste Marie as #1. It has Quebec's best expert terrain on cheval blanc, two high speed detachables with no lines even on peak weekends, has a better ski culture than Tremblant, with 70% of Tremblants vertical and a better fall line, and was supposed to be the location of Tremblants village before intrawest decided to sell Mont Ste Marie and buy Tremblant due to it being closer to Montreal.

That was awesome. Thanks Skier72. We were going to check out Pass Powder Keg on the way home from Fernie last year but unfortunately it didn’t open till 11 and the snow didn’t look to good. I think we will check it out when we head to Fernie for some late morning and early afternoon skiing.

That's unfortunate, I didn't know that. Agreed, I'm sure snow quality can vary quite a bit on Powderkeg, I was lucky to hit it when it was really good.

I was disappointed at PPK when i went there when there was no snow at castle but Ive never been there during night skiing. Looks like it’s a lot better than castle’s green chair only

Fair. TBH, I've only skied there once, but the snow quality was pretty good. I remember being impressed with the operation and the actual skiing.

@@Skier72 the 2 t-bars that were actually quiet enough to hold a conversation next to them made me chuckle 🤣 although old Rexy is a lot quieter now, they did a load of work a couple years ago. Still not quiet by any stretch but at least you dont hear it from half way up the mountain anymore

This video is awesome. I have been skiing in Alberta all my life and never heard of the hill in Innisfail or the one near Red Deer. I was hoping to find a hill to help teach newcomers that they can afford. This sounds perfect. THX Skier 72!
