Three things: 1) You gave me an actionable tool for my session tomorrow. A propagandist is the best way to describe the villain I’ve been imaging to carry the characters forward. Thank you. 2) the visuals & your enthusiasm show that you care about your viewers. I sincerely look forward to any future content you make. 3) It is okay to take pauses in your speech. You run through each archetype so quickly that they started blending together. Let each suggestion breathe.

Should’ve put the 3rd point in between the other 2 to make a compliment sandwich.

Our pursuer is The Defeated One. His assets are being able to leave behind a decoy husk while he teleports and reforms a new body nearby, the ability to be reborn if he dies, and the freedom from his superiors to fulfill his tradition. His goals: kill the last person who killed him. At all costs. His plans: put the general populace in danger to draw out the hero as his prey and cripple his ability to fight back at the risk of hurting those he’s trying to protect.

I really do love the idea of making "the unstable" a really tragic villain. They don't want to harm people, they are cursing themself for this sudden unimagineable power they can't control but simply want to live. They bring disaster everywhere they go but they need to eat, sleep and drink and since they dont have any experience hunting they are forced into nearby towns. I could really see that as being a really hard villain to defeat because they aren't doing anything bad on purpose but are simply unable to control whatever power they may have. They could have lost loved ones to it, might hate themself to no end, hell, if you want to make them really hard to deal with you could have them be unable to die easily. Have their power manifest the second they are about to die so the reason they are actually trying to avoid death is less about wanting to live and more not wanting to harm even more people! I could see a lot of potential in such a character.

this comment actually helped me work on a villain for my cmapaign, hes a barbarian coursed with hyena lycanthropy by yeenoghu, just goes on a bloody rampage at a moments notice, but this comment made me consider the idea of him being just a sad broken lil fellow under the undying rage so yea thanks bro

My favorite villain I made with the help of a friend was a mix of the propogandist and prince charming and the architect, and the corperate shill. I based him off Walt Disney and he is a lich in my setting with his frozen head acting as a phylactry under his theme park. He will act as the main quest giver always keeping tabs on the party and playing to their flaws. He hands out the best loot and quest rewards in order to tempt the party. Every quest they complete brings him closer to his goals. Every villain they defeat eliminates his competition. Basically he acts as the main questgiver but all these quests he hands out are rigged and benefit him in some way. He's always there in the background pulling Xanatos gambits. He controls the narrative through propoganda and with his high charisma and intellegence he's able to make life harder or easier for the party depending on what they choose to do.

I’ve actually been kinda stuck in my current campaign where the party is fighting a crime family, and Hero the Halfling is just what I need to shake things up!!

I thought to many people were sleeping on the cleric, so for the group of bad guys, rather than having the classic makeup of leader, healer, martial, magic etc. I made the leader the cleric. It changes the vibe of the whole group because now all of them are inclined to worship his deity and means that the party is more likely to take radiant damage, a type of damage the players rarely deal with.

I may make a villain who's a cross between Caped Crusader, Propagandist, Pursuer, and the Corporate Shill into a Homelander-like villain. Thanks for all the tips!

A genius video that I really needed. And so nice that you made it easy to remember. That 'GAP' technique ;p (Goals, assets, plans). My party defeated the 'big bad evil guy' from the first arc last week, but I found it incredibly difficult to talk as the villain and justify his own actions (especially because his actions were obviously evil). I bet I could've made him feel more evil and threatening if he appeared multiple times, because I have the feeling that he was a little disappointing. I'll make sure not to make any of these mistakes again!

Another one to add is the Gentleman Bastard. A villain that is antagonistic to the party but also has goals in line with the party or is an integral member of the society and so removing them would make things worse for the citizens. Examples would be David Xanatos from Gargoyles or Thurldrin Kreed from Pathfinders Falcon's Hollow series of modules.
