Oregon State's always been a sneaky team. They've got a long history of playin' top teams real tough, even pullin' some upsets on occasion. This is just another example of that. Yeah, they didn't pull it off, but a 3 point loss to the 7th ranked team in the nation ain't bad at all. They'll be fine, 8-4 + bowl win is how I think it'll look for them when it's all set & done.

As a USC fan, it was definitely a difficult game to watch. Oregon State dominated us on every single aspect of the game. The only thing that kept them from winning that game was a lot of missed opportunities on sacking Caleb Willams, and their QB Nolan throwing 4 interceptions which all of the points we scored were based on those turnovers. The running back #8, Griffin is incredible. The guy was unstoppable. Also, the fans played their role too on being too loud for USC to communicate. The first half we wasted all of our timeouts by the beginning of the 2nd quarter. Caleb Williams had to clap to give the center the signal to hike the ball. The environment was tough to be in for an opposing team. Overall USC is very lucky to get a W from this game and have a lot to improve continuing on their season.

As a USC fan, even though we have a good team, there are always going to be those teams that are just a matchup nightmare. Oregon State was one of them. On top of that, you can tell the OSU guys were playing with heart and passion that USC didn't have and momentum was always in their favor.

One of the things that really bothers me about the USC defense is the defensive line does not shed blockers very well. You see teams like Alabama and Georgia, their defensive lines typically do not get pushed around. That's what has been missing since the Kenechi Udeze, Mike Patterson and Sean Cody days, the defensive line was pretty damn impenetrable. It allowed for the linebackers to fly around at will and make tackles for loss, get sacks or play coverage.

In part that falls on coaching. Coaches need to teach QBs how to be smarter with the ball. Nolan has the potential, but the QB coach doesn't help him to be better. And that makes it unfortunate for OSU. Being a USC fan I'm glad they won, but disappointed with how sloppy they were. Lots of credit though goes to that OSU D. They're the ones who help keep this game close.

The crucial play was the USC 4th down PUSH the quarterback play for the first down. Instead of pushing the quarterback back, the Oregon State guy should have thrown him to the ground sideways, he was 2 yards short then. Plus, the other Oregon State guys could have helped. He had stopped forward progress, so the Refs could also have called him down before the PUSH. It is only a game.

That's a desperation time event that happens. It was the previous three that set it up. And USC stayed calm and did what they needed. No mistakes from them. My Beavs played well, just not well enough (mostly in the passing game). Misses or having to throw it away is something, but INTs... That just hurts...

These are preseason rankings, so they don't hold any true value. They're designed to create buzz. The true value of rankings come out mid-season and then the playoff rankings. Take away the rankings and base the value games on the value of teams OSU would be considered one of the better teams in the nation right now.
