I used a Gen 2 Pro for my undergraduate degree, and just purchased a Gen 4 for graduate studies. I still have my pack of fine markers. Thanks for the useful information. I don't know what I would have done without Notepad, Kindle, and Audible. Dyslexia makes alternative thinking a must. You should have seem the look on my classmates face when I raised my iPad, snapped a shot of a research workflow, and seamlessly added it to my handwritten notes. All while recording bits of the lecture. Simply indispensable.

At last, a video by an academic!! Please keep doing this! How can I annotate on slide while teaching with teams using iPad Pro. PS: where do I get a kuksa like that - also love Dremel :)
@LearningandTechnology

Thanks so much for the comment! For slide annotation on an iPad - Teams currently doesn’t have a presenter view for iPad sharing of PowerPoints. Hopefully soon. The cup is from a company called Uberleben - I did see it listed on Amazon as a Koska Cup - but I think the price is significantly less if you go to the Uberleben.co their website 😀 it’s my “hipster” cup for mushroom coffee - people love it! Dremel tools are very cool! I have a slight problem with them - every time I go to the hardware store I have to get “something” for my Dremel - haha!

Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. I really appreciate how you make the iPad so practical and effective for everyday use. I am even more impressed at 21:40 how you demonstrated the best way to have video conference calls with the iPad Pro 😃😃 that is something the so called top tech reviewers don't do. They always want to find faults with the camera placement without coming up with a solution. I am happy with your demonstration.

I love eBools for this very reason - I find electronic note-taking and organization much easier and definitely use this method. I can’t easily copy the entire book - because of digital rights, but it’s extremely easy for cut and paste notes and images that I can then annotate in OneNote. I also use an App called Readwise that pulls my notes from Kindle books and allows me to review them for spaced repetition. Hmmm… this might make a good video!

We in mechanical engineering research don't use Apple products but instead workstations and gaming laptops
@LearningandTechnology

Yes - I think I mentioned that indirectly when I spoke to Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. The same would apply to any computational requirements that are extensive. In this case, I’m referring to research as reading peer-reviewed journals - not applied research requiring specialized software and/or equipment. I’m surprised that you are not using Apple products for mechanical engineering though. The Mac Pro systems are quite extensively used in many labs I’ve seen - for example medicine.

@@LearningandTechnology indeed they are, however, the university funds only specialised equipment and computer hardware and Apple products don't fall in that category. We usually buy hardware in bulks and Apple is seen as more of a....personal and whim thing rather that professional and serious.
@LearningandTechnology

@@gandalfwiz20007 Understood. It will depend on the University for sure. Back when I did work for Apple, the systems were perceived on some campuses as media systems. However, a few kilometres up the road, they were the powerhouses for serious research! I’m the end, a computer is a computer and it will depend in who is using it. The Apple systems do benefit from being UNIX at their core - which a LOT of serious research uses. The real question is why do I keep losing my annotations every 2 hrs even though the pdf is saved to iCloud and iPad storage, yet it continues to glitch every 2 hrs. So annoying, I reached apple and they didn’t do shit.
@LearningandTechnology
@LearningandTechnology 2 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to annotations you make on the PDF? If you are syncing the PDFs to and from iCloud (or any cloud service) then ensure you have your times and sync settings configured correctly. I’ve seen cases where the cloud copy is seen as “new” and the client copy is over-written by the “new” (unannotated) copy. You can also rename your notes copy so that you are saving a copy that has notes. This can happen if your settings on the original are “read only” - it could be that you are trying to sync a copy, the cloud doesn’t allow it to be written, and then your local copy gets “updated” with the non-noted read-only copy. If it’s happening every 2 hours - then it is very likely a sync issue - happening every 2 hours.

@@LearningandTechnology it’s the markup feature, Everyone is complaining about it. Apple really needs to fix this problem. Students buy the ipad precisely so they can use the pencil to take notes, do research, highlight text and make annotations. But the markup feature makes everything disappear after putting hours of work into it, and makes the ipad and pencil useless if it’s not intended to be used as actual paper
@LearningandTechnology
@LearningandTechnology 2 жыл бұрын
@@Vieracky22 Ah! - Are you wanting to markup PDFs using the pencil? The way I do that is to do my markups on the PDF and then save my annotated copy into Books. So my “annotated” PDFs are all there. I’m not 100% sure this is what you are looking for and/or if you tried this. I’m not 100% sure how to recreate the challenge you are having because this is the way I’ve been doing it. However, maybe this helps? Let me know exactly what type of document you are marking up and losing (I’m just assuming PDF). Maybe this is a solution? Add: I also sometimes do that same with OneNote - I’ll mark up a PDF and then send to OneNote in a Notebook for a specific project. If this doesn’t make sense - I can video it as a demo.
@Vieracky22
@Vieracky22 2 жыл бұрын

@@Vieracky22 what I do is take the PDF and save it into iBooks or OneNote (depending on the project). After that, I can mark it up all I want and it stays.
