Damn bra hope you got your bike back by now im a new rider. Last week I went a bit to fast around a corner and went a tad wide on the turn went off the road and it was bumpy ass dirt too lol so i got parellel with the road bc i only had about 3 ft of space from a hill of rock so i just relaxed as best i could after I stood it more upright handlebars went crazy left right left right and back end was doing the same lol i also have no dirt riding expirence. then gyroscopic forces kicked in and the bike stabilized and I got back on the road and just kept going like nothing happened lol. I was like thank you god after the fact. Ive only been riding for about a month and have 670 miles under my belt. Definitely learned my lesson.

When I was a new rider I went around a blind corner too fast and ended up in the incoming traffic lane because I was panic braking to late... I ended up completely fine but had the thought in my head "Slow down! You could be dead!" I still corner quickly but never fast enough to feel I may need to brake. So on a blind corner much slower. Sometimes life lessons don't cost anything and we can still learn from them.

I think that moment when you really recognize that your motorcycle can, and will, kill you if you mess up is that moment we decide to either put it up in the garage or dedicate to getting good. Mine was going into a sharp turn, realizing I was going to fast I grabbed a fistful of brake (Didn't even realize the danger of that at the time) and got yeeted across the road. Fortunately it was dead of night so no traffic, but cracked a rib bruised to hell and rode away with a concussion.

Been down 3 times.. only once the first time was super nasty. Was distracted by a deer and stared way to long and went in and out of a ditch. I was 15 and took a joyride on my brothers Kawasaki KZ.. so.. other 2 times.. also distracted. Got into shoulder gravel in the twisties and down I went .. also inexperienced rider. Overshooting a corner and getting into a sand and gravel situation is a recipe for disaster.

Distance/speed=time. If your speed is too high for the distance you can see, you have to slow down to give yourself time to react. The faster you go, the further you need to look ahead to have the time to react to trouble. Don't look at the spot 5 feet in front of you. That's the past. Look at where you gonna be 3 seconds from now. With every mile in speed you go up, that future point is going to be further away from you. Can't see that point? SLOW DOWN. Speed kills. More speed kills you faster. Speed isn't a skill. Skill may grant you speed. Skill takes time to develop.

Excellent advice 👌. I went in to a sharp curve way too hot and, luckily got away with it. I have a CVO Road Glide with a 34 degree lean angel (Good for a Harley but certainly not as capable as a crotch rocket). I crossed the yellow line by about 1 to 2 feet, scraped my floor board and was lucky that there wasn't another vehicle going the other way. If there had been, I probably wouldn't be writing this note or, for that matter, I probably wouldn't be here at all.

I’m not a rider yet, for multiple reasons. First, money isn’t there yet, I’m a college student 😅. Second, I have some personality issues (prone to anger sometimes) that I’m seeking to work on. My goal whenever I start riding is to do everything *I* can do to not ride foolishly, hopefully to prevent the most major of accidents, and to know how to be smart about avoiding troubles to begin with.

My personal #1: Practice _extra_ if you don't ride all the time. If one's bike gets ridden only once every couple weeks, it takes honestly an hour or so before one is _really_ back "up to speed" and adept at handling the bike. Side comment-- "Engine braking is something you always experience in a bike or in a car" is thankfully just not true for most cars, at least in America, since we have mostly auto transmissions. Really very little engine braking off-gas.)

Riding buddy & invested in the Alpinestars Airbag ($800ish). Few weeks ago, it paid for itself. At a red light, some lady rammed into my friend from behind and launched him a good 10 feet from his bike. The airbag deployed and he walked away with no major injuries (just a few bruises on his legs). Nearly the same thing happened to me about 10 years ago and I broke my collarbone costing me a cool 13k in medical bills and a permanent back pain. Wish I had an airbag back then.

I crashed one time haha 😅 walked like a old man for a week and that's about it since I was wearing full gear. Might have overbraked a little bit on a wet oily road behind a hgv haha 😂

Unfortunately, the HIVIS gear doesn't actually help in my experience... I wear a HIVIS vest all year and I have still been hit by drivers who just don't look when they turn the wheel... Better use it then not, but drivers' education is the problem on this one

I went out on a ride with a buddy the other day and my inside voice yelled at me. "You forgot to turn dummy!" Yup, I forgot how to turn. A coyote crossed the road just before a corner and well my eyes watched the coyote and the bike kept going. Luckily it was a slow 15 mph corner so I just ended up in on the shoulder. That damn target fixation got me.

Honestly don’t watch your channel too much, but I appreciate this video, not only for myself but for my son, who I’m sure will hit the roads in about 6 years. This one is logged for the future.

Going slow and looking where you want to go also go hand in hand. If you ride slower you give yourself more time to make observations - you can spot a hazard "sooner" relative to your speed, take appropriate mitigating action and then commit to continuing on your route. Riding faster forces you to make your observations, decisions and manoeuvres all at once and most of us aren't quick or skilled enough to successfully do this.

Got 3 tickets for lane filtering here in GA a few months ago, decided I would be a good lil boy and sit in the ridiculous 30 mins of stop and go traffic every morning. Well one cold morning after sitting in traffic I finally got in my turnlane to turn onto the next street, and the cold tires leaning over the huge painted crosswalk, caused my rear to wash out and I lowsided 😭 yet another reason lane filtering should be legalized lolz

yes, just - slow - down - most YT vids I see with riders getting in bad situations usually are due to the rider - going way - way too fast. thanks for the vid - stay safe.
