I’ve created an association with your videos, Shaelin! I watch one every time I want to get into the right mindset to write. ✍🏻✨

White boards was a game changer for me. Especially with complex stories seeing it all spread out or just puzzling things together.

Shaelin's tips are the pearl without price whether it is about associating favourite music with certain writing projects or keeping a process log that analyses slumps and highs : I know nothing about software, and only use a typewriter and notebooks, but maybe it is time to change.

Last points are so true... I get really agitated when things don't go as planned, so I barely make any writing schedules. I also view my writing as a hobby or a break from my actual work like school etc. That kept me going all these years even tho not a lot of people have read my uploaded works lol

Awesome tips- thank u! And I completely do the association thing w music too😃 one kind of trick I have is, if I feel stuck in a scene/chapter, etc I switch from typing on my laptop to handwriting - good ol pen and paper (often sitting outside)- even if its just a few pages it helps meget back into a good flow!

I switch from writing songs to poetry that definitely helps when in a rut and find it difficult to get motivated.

You actually made me feel better about all the writing software I've tried. I like Scrivener but it takes too much work for me so I turned to Dabble which seems simpler, cleaner, lighter. And yes, about the multiple projects. I usually can't stay with writing one thing too long. Have to change or go bake cookies.😆

Studying your long-term energy patterns is amazing, and I'd like to add that tracking your tracking your cycle if you're a menstruating woman can be amazing! I find that the ebb and flow of my creative process tends to follow my cycle pretty closely. Now I can more easily tell if I'm lacking motivation and can push through or if my hormonal makeup at that point of the cycle is just more geared towards reading, researching, just now writing.

i switched to a note app called Bear Note on my mac and i like the minimalist look when writing. it’s a fun change. i transfer the text back to microsoft word after i’m done and save that as a backup.

What if my procrastination project is watching these videos? But they are awesome! The best on KZbin. My last reedsy prompt weekly entry was 'the tide is high', the song association idea works well. Also, I've been writing simply using Google Docs. Curious as to what the other programs add to the writing process for other people?

i use online tools for finding new words, i also practice my writings on a separate project now so when working on my main projects it feels fun to write and i can be more creative in my sentences.

It looks as if I have been not-working on Project B for much of my life, and turning procrastination into a hobby. In her writing manual *Novelista* (2020) Claire Askew said she was an awkward, bullied child from Kelso in the Scottish Borders, who mostly lived inside books, and who had a fanatical devotion to poetry that surprised even her friends at Edinburgh University's Literature Department. Now a published novelist, Claire recommends a book I do not know, Alexander Chee's 'breath-taking' books of essays: *How To Write An Autobiographical Novel*. The last thing I wish to write is an auto-novel, for me writing is about escaping the self, but Claire's superlative breath-taking intrigued me to order the book.

I started using headphones with a binaural beats app that plays over my music playlist and it increased my word count for the same amount of time by maybe 1.5x. It lets me pick settings (among many choices) like “focused and alert” to rev up a bit or “creativity boost” when I need the creative juices to kick in. I know there’s some science behind it, but even if it were a placebo, it works for me.

Great tutorial, a lot to grasp from it, ---and correct, songs, or music like you said, does indeed enable easier flow of creative abilities.

My biggest level up came from focusing on more shorter writing sessions. If I tell myself, "I just need to write for 15 minutes," then I end up writing for hours because it's so much fun!

What if exams approaching is one of the things that lowers my productivity? Just kidding haha. Some really good tips here, just the thought of a second "procrastination project" running alongside my first is exciting. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing this, appreciate that! Regarding the last advice, personally - working on a story told from human soul's perspective I find that it makes it more fun simply adding some humour and distance to narrator's observations - it's like with life itself - the less constricted and serious (about our egos) we are the more we flow with life :)

I discovered that Trello works much better for me than Scrivener and that OneNote is the perfect companion for research-heavy projects and also great to create story bibles if you're into that.

I use Papyrus Author and plan via Writers Block 5. Jumping between projects morning and night with music. Focusing on one does drain the energy and fun out of the process for me. It's better to explore while maintaining productivity during the recharge, thus avoids burnouts and saves that extra time wasted. (why writers block 5? well peeps, my hand writing is atrocious, it's pretty much flash cards on a screen that can be color coded.)

I forget who said it but, "The best part of writing is having written." I disagree. It is nice once done but without a project in process I feel naked. That is why I keep myself dressed in stories.
