This is exactly what language teaching should be, moving from the (needed) textbook language patterns to the natural everyday usage. Bravi!

I feel so lucky to have watched this video coincidentally! The way you explain things + your tone and all - it really helps to memorize the words. Greetings from Beijing!

I know it’s extra work, but any chance you could add pinyin to the dialogue excerpts as well? Helps with learning and context. E.g. the bruised guy pronunciation was really hard to follow

Yeah good suggestion, we'll include full pinyin subs in the next video. :) For the moment you can find the pinyin subtitles here: www.zerotohero.ca/en/zh/phrase/search/%E6%88%91%E8%B7%9F%E4%BD%A0%E8%AE%B2

Great vlog-teaching technique. ?Maybe stretch out the lesson using a common instruction: 'search for word' text memorization, to remember the full correct sequence of the new presented syllables. "Shì ____ yang de, xuéxí hànyǔ fāngyán bìng bù róngyì."

Yeah good idea, I should add a practice component in the next video.

I have a question: In the 我问你 clip (where the girl asks the guy) . The subtitie is confusing since we have no context, and "swear" can mean either "making a vow" or "using foul language" in translation . Did she mean : " I ask you, that day at our house, (when) in front of my father (you were) beating your chest and pledging (vows) ....... " ?

vowing (发誓). she probably thought he was being over the top the other day.
