There's also the Componar 50mm f4.5 which is even smaller and the 'zebra-style' version has a square aperture too. It's not quite as good as the 75mm in terms of IQ but, because it's a shorter focal length, it needs to be mounted closer to the sensor which enhances it's size advantage, if tiny size is your priority.

It's probably late for an answer, but still. It depends. Some of them have flange distance around 22 mm, some around 40. If your camera is mirrorless, you can adapt all of them. Second problem is that most of them don't have a focusing mechanism. Sometimes they fit into helicoids of some vintage lenses, I sacrificed Industar 50-2 for Componar lens.

Really love the look of that square bokeh, but it's mildly infuriating that it's off-level by about ⅟₁₆th turn (12.5°). I'm interested if it being level would maximize the surrealness or ruin the look.

you can insert a black circular card of paper with a square hole cut into it in between your lens and adapter (or over top the front lens glass) of any lens and get similar bokeh if the square is sized correctly.
@xander10522 жыл бұрын
Luckilly there is a simple, if certainly equally annoying, solution. You could take the photo at than angle so that the bokeh is level with what you want to take, and then crop so you have the largest possible image that brings the final image to level with what you wanted.

Not a plug, Worth trying, finding, borrowing, renting, and then you'll be sold. The ever controversial m43 format also has the best mirrorless lens of *any* format. The Voigtlander 29mm f0.8 lens has the best aperture of any new mirrorless lens presently listed for sale. The optics make it one of the top twenty lenses of any interchangeable lens on the market today. The main drawbacks of the lens. It is expensive for a prime lens, and it is also manual focus. Most people will not have the patience to use a lens with such a highly concentrated focus field. Just how concentrated? Wide open, that f0.8 aperture is normally too concentrated for a head and shoulders portrait of one person - the eyes and someone's nose would normally not be entirely in focus. For those willing to practice the true arts side of photography, and for those with the patience and skill to use manual focusing - this lens is absolutely worth it. One of the best camera lenses I've ever used for any sized sensor.

Weird? Lenses like the Schneider Componar were developed not to shoot photographs with, but as projection lens in "enlargers". This required different, or favored, or enabled lenience to some aspects and doing better in other, qualities. Starting generally with a negative in that enlarger, the subject has no depth, but excellent sharpness and contour sharpness and contrast are required while bokeh has zero concern and there should be no field curvature or distortion. You would stop these down to get to their optimal performance, not because of depth of field. The 75mm/4.5 will have been designed with an image circle for medium format. Schneider and other manufacturers (like Nikon or Leica) would still have a quality level above this one IIRC.
