Adding Devon makes any video better. Once you add Pantheon, Duel gets much better. And if you want to make it more difficult, add Agora. I noticed you didn't want to add 7 Wonders Architects to the comparison. :)

I've only ever played 7 Wonders: Duel and greatly enjoyed it. I really need to try out 7 Wonders one day... Side Note: I couldn't stop staring at that 7 Wonders box throughout the whole video; the "S" at the end of Wonders is so far away from the rest of the letters. It shall now be known as 7 WONDER-S.

In regular 7 Wonders, not only are you passing cards around the table and they are secret information - but the symbols on the cards make it even more difficult to teach - because you always have to either ask another player or ask for the rulebook to lookup the icon/symbol - which allows play down.

While the gods don't have that much of an impact in pantheon. Giving a player the choice to skip a card draw on the tableau by taking a God card is very game-changing tacticwise.

I was hoping somebody would mention this. This, in my opinion, is the most important part of the Pantheon expansion. We never play without it. It elevates the game from good to great.

7:46 I disagree. Because of the simultaneous play of the original - it is NOT a very good gateway game. Whereas, with Duel, all cards are open information.

I think 7 Wonders is a very BAD gateway game - because of the simultaneous play and because of the symbols/icons which some people new to games may have a hard time figuring out what they mean - and then they don't get help because someone else is figuring out their own turn; and even if they were to help, they would have to reveal their hand to the other player.

I had a very bad first time experience with 7 Wonders when new to modern board games and no one advised me to collect resource cards. Then when I realised why they were important cards, it was too late in the game I and they were not available. I could not do much for the remainder of the game, and meanwhile found the intrusion of the two players to either side picking me off repeatedly on the one or two cards I had. A long and not very enjoyable experience. It taught me you need to teach newbies some strategy as well as the rules to get them off on the right track and keep them in the game, and especially in a game like this where the first few moves are critical.

For me, Pantheon is a must expansion for 7 Wonders Duel, if only for the fact that from the second age on, it allows you to spend your turn not taking one of the cards in the pyramid, and so breaking the cadence of the drafting.

We have found 7 Wonders is a great game but we don’t consider it a gateway game, especially at a higher player count. There is a learning curve. Recently got 7 Wonders Architect, which truly is the gateway game to the 7 Wonders universe. Great that it supports up to 7 players too. 7 Wonders Duel is one of the best 2 player games, in my opinion. Felt that the military was bit unbalanced from other ways to win. However, added Agora expansion set and it is a fantastic expansion. Almost feels like a game in itself, and seems like it better balances the game.

7WD is unique in terms of winning condition, red and green are much easier to achieve than others thought, my winning status is about 33% for each of 3 - from BGA 500 ELO

7 wonders duel has made me never want to play 7 wonders. It just does everything better. There's more tension with the various win conditions especially with the expansions (both are amazing). Also, you have so much more control over your strategy. In 7 wonders you may have a strategy but ppl can take those cards and you don't have as much control but with duel you can draft specific cards to not reveal any new cards or force your opponent to reveal the card you really wanted and there's just something so much more strategic and fun about that

The problem with BGA games is that when one player plays a bunch they can break that parity they might have had with their in person gaming group.... this 100% happened for me with 7WD and ruined the experience...

7 wonders is fine but so many games are way better at 3-5 players (It hasn’t been picked in 4 years)!! 7 wonder duel is picked all the time at 2.

Am I the only who dislikes Leaders? For first time players guidance is now, but beyond that you have basically gave someone a role to play at the beginning. I love the flexibility in 7 Wonders and wouldn’t want to take it away.

i don’t play 7 wonders duel base game anymore.. unforgiven was better for us with the drafting mechanism. duel got boring as same level opponents military and science victories never happened and it came down to more luck on the card draft

7 Wonders is terrible as a gateway game. Don't do it! 7 Wonders Duel is easier to explain because of the open information but still I wouldn't call that a gateway game. If you want gateway, play 7 Wonders Architects (but really, don't. Play something else.).
