Marys’ Seven Holy Scripture texts.
1.) Luke 1:34 “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”
(Response to the annunciation)
Mary ever Virgin, CCC#s 496-499. Old Testament expression, brothers means close relatives. CCC# 500. The Catholic Church does not regard the phrase “brothers of the Lord” as other children of Mary. Mk 3:31-35, 6:3; 1 Cor 9:5; Gal 1:19. James and Joseph (“brothers of Jesus”) are in fact sons of another Mary who was a disciple of Christ (“the other Mary,”Mat 13:55, 27:56, 28:1.
2.) Luke 1:38 Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
(Acceptance of her vocation) Mary gave her consent in faith at the Annunciation and maintained it without hesitation at the foot of the Cross. Ever since, her motherhood has extended to the brothers and sisters of her Son “who still journey on earth surrounded by dangers and difficulties.” Jesus, the only mediator, is the way of our prayer; Mary, his mother and ours, is wholly transparent to him: she “shows the way” (Hodigitria), and is herself “the Sign” of the way, according to the traditional iconography of East and West. 4.) Luke 1:46 “My soul magnifies the Lord…” (Joyful reflection on God’s fidelity, the Magnificat)
5.) Luke 2:48 “Child, why have you treated us like this?” (The finding of the child Jesus in the temple)
6.) John 2:3 “They have no wine.” (Marys’ intercession on behalf of the Cana wedding hosts)
7.) John 2:5 “Do whatever He tells you.” JESUS 1st Public Miracle

2617 Mary's prayer is revealed to us at the dawning of the fullness of time. Before the incarnation of the Son of God, and before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, her prayer cooperates in a unique way with the Father's plan of loving kindness: at the Annunciation, for Christ's conception; at Pentecost, for the formation of the Church, his Body.88 In the faith of his humble handmaid, the Gift of God found the acceptance he had awaited from the beginning of time. She whom the Almighty made "full of grace" responds by offering her whole being:
2618 The Gospel reveals to us how Mary prays and intercedes in faith. At Cana,89 the mother of Jesus asks her son for the needs of a wedding feast; this is the sign of another feast - that of the wedding of the Lamb where he gives his body and blood at the request of the Church, his Bride. It is at the hour of the New Covenant, at the foot of the cross,90 that Mary is heard as the Woman, the new Eve, the true "Mother of all the living."
