Started my tow firm bout 19 after a few years at it with bout 12 rigs got first heavy diesel powered wrecker, was a 70 Pete 2axel long wheel base 156'' ca Holmes 600 x6 booms ta185 , prior to that I used 74 C65 28.900 gvw juice brakes 104'' ca Holmes 500 cage booms, Holmes push bumper , put 9:00×20's front 10:00×20's rear, booms nearly straight up, duel snatch blocks to ring then to y-bridle hooked to th185, duel 50 gal step tanks kept full, all that so towing tractor trailers truck looked level and stout. Had 305 cid outta some junk car, ran it for years like that. When I got the Pete narrow nose I thought I made it, that and the C65 along with a 72 C40 60"ca can Holmes 480 out 9:00×20's rear 8:25×20's rear, put a truck hitch on it for rv's, bobtails, tractors from rear, they were just the beginning of my 42 year career. All the best to ya.

Love those old mid duties, and slinging it back home on another was beautiful. Any new wrecker can make an operator look good but that showed what a good operator can do! Good luck with the “new” rig and thanks for sharing it

Dear Delray JYD. 👍👌👏 Maaan, that's really a very beautiful designed old wrecker! Congrats for purchasing it (although you definitely don't need more projects). ;-) Your Peterbilt wrecker did very well. It is hunting for idle when it's cold and I think that there is a muffler leak somewhere. Bus Grease monkey has content on his channel how to properly maintenance and setting the valves/injectors/idle etc.p.p. on those old 2stroke Detroit Diesels. Maybe that could be helpful!? The old Pete needs and deserves a little TLC. Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.

I used to drive a old Chevy wrecker w/ the Holmes setup just like that one, probably the same year truck! I liked that old wrecker, it only had a 327 in it but she’d run pretty good. And the damnest thing about is I had an Uncle who drove the same Wrecker, for the same people too, back in the 70’s, early 70’s.

A neighbor of mine has a few of those C-60's. Tow Trucks Stake Bodies Dump Trucks even a few School Buses. There's a few with with 350's but most of 'em are 'Tall-Deck' 427's. He's also got a few Tall Decks out of other parts Trucks, ect. He keep ALL of His stuff INSIDE...not easy considering the size of these things. He's been playing with this stuff for years. He's just turned 80 now but still climbs in those Trucks!

I towed with that truck for 10 year in the late 90s & early 2000s she had a sweet running 327 In her .That was Palmer's Towing before Sanford muffler shop bought it .it was old blue before it was painted

Fitted a Holmes to an underlift on a Seddon Atkinson 8 Wheeled wrecker about 20 yrs ago - built the Interstater copy too. Was a bit surprised the Holmes was chain driven. Seemed a bit primitive to my eye, but the customer wanted it. Jim.

@@keepontruckinoutlawlife1248 Its really the oil companies fault, if they had a system where you could get a chit from the pump, then move to an area where you leave your vehicle and take the chit to the cashier to pay, you could spend the whole bloody day lollygagging around the store and not inconvenience anyone.
