Its funny 50 years ago I did just the same thing with a Yamaha SRX engine. I was working at a defense plant and we built massive guns for the US Navy. They had a coating that was used on gun slides. I coated them pistons to where they were a press fit, and just as he mentioned it fixed itself. So it has taken the racing world over 40 years to catch up to the military contractors.

These long format videos being chocked full of technical information are a gem, Steve. No other engine designer is going to share their TDP and why they make changes to their designs. Most of the viewers simply enjoy the content while those of us that aren't involved in the racing industry however we do appreciate the empirical side of things having a manufacturing background, albeit in an unrelated industry. And no SME video is complete without a Dewey cameo which always makes our day brighter. We still have some hoodies untouched but why not add a couple more hoodies and a Dewbert shirt so as to ease some of the strain on the Wagon budget? It's a win-win for everyone and we're looking forward to seeing the feedback video on the piston & bearing coating. The piston coating reminds us of the DFL from Cerakote and the exhaust coating reminds us of their piston coating (oven cure) offering. Cheers! Edit: No Dewbert shirt - sold out in our size. Blue SM shirt instead. Cheers!

Hell yeah! Absolutely amazing stuff… My brain is running wild like the look on Steve’s face, thinking of all the possibilities of use for the coating lol. First thing I thought before ever hearing it, was roots blower lobes… Self clearancing and never wears out basically… No more Teflon!!! Lol. Tight tolerances on rotor to rotor and rotor to case, with no excess heat build up either… like the Teflon does… Him mentioning the turbo compressor housings… amazing! Can tell that’s happening by the look on Steve’s face lol. Awesome just awesome. Far as the piston redesign goes, I thought immediately of a diesel piston… They have massive ring lands, and an iron reinforced ring grove if they’re aluminum lol. Then there’s absolute insanity with forged steel pistons lol. Due to their cylinder pressure… 👍🤘👏

Wow, I got a whole new appreciation for pistons. I just put rings on them and stuck them in the block. Did dirt track racing and 1/4 mile. Two different tunes but I made it work. Chevy for the dirt, and 70 Mach 1 mustang for the 1/4 mile. I learned to diversify.
