1:30 - This particular Ponderosa location regretted building their restaurant near a mental institution, as the inmates would frequently break out, and hang out at their salad bars...

yusakug I can imagine relatives of that guy doing facepalms. “We can’t take you anywhere!...”

Ponderosa-that salad bar needed a sneeze guard.. Evening Magazine-Interested in both the 'witch at her own funeral' story and how that man @2:30 couldve possibly survived that..ouch

Oprah is around 24 years old on here and her voice still sounds the same at 65. Wow.

0:00--The Orbit gum commercial is one of the few that I recognize here, since this is a short volume with mostly local ads from a different part of the country than where I'm from. No catchy jingle like many Wrigley's commercials of the day, but still a memorable ad. 1:30--The Ponderosa commercial--at least the giant heap of food--reminds me of the way my brother and I ate when we went to a buffet-style restaurant when we were in our teens or early 20's! We used to have Ponderosa and its sister chain Bonanza in my home state of Iowa, but both are sadly gone from this area. 2:00 and 4:00--I'm guessing "Evening Magazine" is similar to a program called "P.M. Magazine" that aired on one of the stations in my area back then. As I recall, it was a combination of national and local segments.

Wow, young Oprah. Neat to see a Ponderosa ad from way back then and yeah would have enjoyed hearing that Beach Boys story.

I'd love to see that Beach Boys story. I know that the tarmac incident took place on Al Jardine's birthday (Sept 3). Thanks for the new 70s upload. I was a year away from starting kindergarten when this one aired!

It actually happened on September 2nd, 1977.

Oh My, Oprah before she was famous. Love it. Also, love the Fayva shoe store commercial. The boots were on sale for 30.00$ If you look that up in the inflation calculator that is $116.00 in todays money. Things coast a little more back then but they last forever. I bet if you took care of those boots they would still be around today. Damn cheap China crap!

My thoughts on the Ponderosa ad - puns were a thing back then? And no one cared if saliva gets on the spoon and vegetables that he was making puns with? 😆😆

Do these sound like the actions of a man who had "ALL HE COULD EAT" at Ponderosa? For some reason I remember using those fake toy bricks like the ones in the ORT ad.

Yep, I remember those cardboard bricks at preschool in early 80s. I also remember my teacher slapping me for throwing them at the other kids.
