Rescued, renewed, and re-blued.
Daisy 'Targeteer' BB Pistol restoration. These BB pistols were made by Daisy from 1937 until 1952. So this one is at least 69 years old. These were intended for younger kids, and to be used indoors. They require tiny little 118 shot ammo and are really low power. The ads state "Accurate up to 12 feet!". Still a very fun little gun to use inside.
Bluing Steel: This little gun is made from stamped steel. The steel was originally blued. Bluing is a chemical treatment that changes the surface of steel to make it harder and more resistant to rust. I re-blued this gun using a very basic recipe of caustic soda, potassium nitrate, and water.
Cold Bluing: You can see that I use metal blackener, or cold bluing. This is purely cosmetic and doesn't inhibit corrosion or change the hardness of the steel.
Temper coloring: I also temper color some screws in this video. This uses heat to change the color of the steel. Also, purely cosmetic. It just has a bit of a different look.

Not sure if it's the same one I had back in the late 70's early 80's but I definitely remember loading it the same way. So much more fun than cap guns! Nicely restored, looks fantastic!

Nice refurbishing efforts. It looks similar to an older Ruger Standard model 22 rim fire pistol. This is a perfect pistol to start a kid out with because being low power, you can teach gun control and muzzle control. Thumbs Up!

You do really nice work and I enjoy your videos. Please consider putting some sort of sound deadening material on the underside of your steel work table. When you drop things on it or hammer things on it the resulting sound is very annoying.

Nice production and result! I question why the heated solution bluing method for the frame instead of just cold bluing you did for the rivets? It seemed like a lot of unnecessary work for the same result. It was cool to see all three types of bluing though. Congratulations!
@AcmeRestorations
@AcmeRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
It's not the same result. Real bluing creates an oxide layer that is harder and rust resistant. Cold bluing is just coloring. It's really only good for touch up. Thanks for watching.

Cold blueing is just cosmetic. It's just for touch up, it's not actually blueing. Also I am trying to restore to the original contidion and this pistol was originally blued so I wanted to give it a try.

@AcmeRestorations
@AcmeRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
It's not that dangerous. This is the first BB gun I have ever seen that you probably could NOT put your eye out with. It's super gutless. Also, kids back in the '30s were given more responsibilities and expected to be more responsible. Just look at Audie Murphy for example.

Sometimes I think the manufacturers really didn't think when they made things like these. Twelve feet is still enough to hurt someone. Or beak your mother's china, vase, picture frame, vacuum cleaner, windows, lightbulbs, the dog, the cat, the fishtank. Really anything that exists. Love the restoration.

It was made from 1937 to 1952. They didn't exactly prioritize user safety with toys back then. Lawn darts for example didn't even start getting banned until the 1990's and those were very dangerous.
