So satisfying and uplifting even inspiring to watch the recovery and restoration-to-new of a once-abandoned, rusty old lamp!

Saved from its demise, lighting the way from a time once lived,a piece of history saved for all to enjoy and imagine, how it must have felt,to live in the days of no electric lighting,as lighting a lantern at night, was the norm for those of the past 👍🏼

I'd have painted it back yellow - the original color. Really, some of them are not worth bringing back, and as rusty as this one was, it really was too far gone. These lanterns aren't rare at all. I have both an old yellow and an old orange, red globe road hazard lantern. Probably 30's-50's vintage. Dietz Little Wizard and a Dietz Little Giant. Nowhere near as messed up as this one - still in perfect working order as a matter of fact. -Then, after all that work, you go and put gummy old red dyed diesel in for fuel. WTH.

The original color was a metalic blue. I didn't use diesel; it is parafin oil.

Dietz was the industry standard for kerosene railroad signal lamps before the advent of battery-powered incandescent lights.

I remember my Dad cleaning the glass and trimming the wicks and filling up the kerosene in our hurricane lamps because we had no electricity in our house in Madras India in the early 60s . And there would be a strong gust of wind and the lamps would go out and my Dad would have to relight the lamps . Those were the days but beautiful memories to cherish . Cheers from Australia .

Beautiful work. Looks fantastic. FYI: The wood wipers, as you called them, are actually called dasher blades. The unit they are attached to is the dasher.

Is that what people do nowadays. Make antiques look like brand new? Sorry but looks too much like a pen knife and will be totally out of balance to shave with.
