Allegations of price gouging emerged when airline fares rose as high as $1,500 per ticket during Hurricane Milton. This isn’t new. A few weeks earlier, airlines also did this during Hurricane Helene. Hundreds of people filed complaints with their respective state attorneys general about skyrocketing costs for airline tickets, gas, or hotel rooms.
Our own social media producer, Melissa Clavijo, found herself paying a staggering $700 for a one-way flight out of Florida. While we seek safety, companies are cashing in on our vulnerability. Senator @elizabethwarren (D-MA) and other lawmakers are urging the Federal Trade Commission to address widespread price gouging in states affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, calling for a federal price -gouging ban.
What’s your experience with these price hikes?
