Apparently my very unimportant neighborhood has some important power lines running through it, and so again, we lucked out. From here, I'll try to use every resource at my disposal to help the people around me and then move on to the trails. We don't know the extent of the damage yet, but we're sure it's going to require a huge effort. Thank you all for supporting my platform. I'll do all I can on your behalf to use it for good.

Hey Seth, my name is Bryant. We met once last year. I was working for TPS and did some lawn care at your property. We spoke for a hot minute about our backgrounds in riding. I grew up on the Northeast in the early 2000’s, was deep in the downhill scene. I live in Edneyville, just above Gerton and Chimney Rock. We’re in trouble here, supplies are running dangerously low. The shelter in Edneyville has no diapers left. Water and fuel are short. If you could get the word out that we’re looking for supplies across the greater Asheville area, it would be a great help. Thanks man, you’re the reason I found my love for downhill and freeride again.

My father in laws business literally washed away. 50 years of work, gone. That said, what hasn't hit the news yet is that in the Garren Creek area at least 10 people are confirmed dead and more are missing. A 10 YO was rescued naked in a tree two days ago. The rest of his family has not been recovered. Its a mind blowing tragedy that is just starting to unfold.

I remember during hurricane Andrew, the people across the street from us were on the same power grid as a medical building and a grocery store. They got power in three days, and on our side of the street it took over a month. What was beautiful to see though, was standing at the end of the block and looking at lines of extension cords running across the street from neighbor to neighbor. Just to be able to run your refrigerator and plug in a couple fans became the difference between surviving and thriving. The people on the powered side were so thankful and felt so blessed, they were eager to encourage their neighbors to tap in to their good fortune. When I hear about people looting or scalping generators and water for a tremendous markup, I think about those extension cords, and I feel much better about human nature. God bless!

How do you expect them to get to everyone that fast. It's not like they just have an infinite amount of resources, they have to pack everything and bring it all to said states. They also have to get roads open (literal roads are gone, just disappeared). It's a tough situation, and being realistic people have to just have to tough through unfortunately. Help will come eventually just be optimistic and pray. It's not like you're doing anything to help.

@@SashaBaron112the government is helping with what they can, and although I hate our current administration, he's sent planes with supplies and whatever else they need. Unfortunately, many roads were washed out and theres no way safe to get to these places. A lot of these places are very rural small towns in between mountains, so most things have to be done with helicopters and planes until the water goes down more. Nobody could have really prepared for it to be this bad.

I think the fact that natural citizens trying to help are being told not too or they’ll be arrested is what is frustrating. We understand it’s horrific and not safe, but more lives will be lost bc the government doesn’t want outside help. There are ppl willing to risk their lives, spend their own money, time, and equipment to help, but are being forced to stop.

The whole country gathered into millions and millions of donations, because 1/5 of the whole state will need to be rebuilt. Keep in mind, Rio grande do Sul is the size of South Carolina AND Florida COMBINED Some big brands of Rio Grande do Sul lost many things, like FuelTech, who lost pretty much their whole stock in Brazil. But the impact was bigger on the small properties, people who didn't have anything other than their houses, their animals and their land. Consequentially, they lost everything. I have wondered since we bought our house in 2010 why more places don't have their electric lines underground. The person who commented about the landslides/mountains partially answered it. The only time we have a power outage is if there is a large amount of damage to the transformer (I think it's called). In 2012 a school bus driver had a heart attack and wrecked his empty bus into the transformer causing a power outage. (He survived and was fine. No one was injured.) Besides something like that, we rarely ever lose power. Which we are truly grateful for 🙏🏼

Have you been attacked since then? You still have internet connection. These people are having to drive/walk through washed out roads and homes and down power lines to get close enough to any remaining cell tower and text their family that they are still alive. People are dead or missing. One man lost 11 family members including his mother and father. Are you SURE you'd switch places? This guy is not the norm. He has everything he needs, and therefore the money to be fully prepared for a hurricane and was not even in the eye of the storm. Yet hes still having to deal with a lot. But I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I also imagine that no matter how good the park or the food, sharing a border with Russia is a full time menace.

@@CoffeeCrazylarge watershed, more rain than anyone expected. plus because it was raining before Helene got to the area, major drainages were already blocked.

@CoffeeCrazy three things: 1. Mountains are cooler and when humid air reaches the mountains and cools down, water condenses out in the form of rain (and lots of it) 2. When rain falls it flows down hill to the valleys where streams and rivers are. In the mountains, valleys are steeper and narrower so the water flows deeper. 3. As mentioned in the video, there was a big regular rain storm about a day before Helene hit so the ground was already full of water and the rivers and streams were already running high even before any rain from the hurricane hit. This has been the story whoever the mountains have had devastating floods (as in 1916): two huge rain events back to back without enough time between to dry out

Just a word of high caution. Please be careful carrying fuel in the back of any UTV / Utility vehicle (at least one that has the motor under the bed). If any fuel spills and seeps past the bed and onto the motor it is a high chance it will start on fire. Seen plenty of RZR's and Rangers burn to the ground with fuel being carried in the back.

Also please move AND keep your jerry cans AWAY from the generator when operating. It's a simple rule that can avoid an absolute catastrophe. Your situation is already compromised.....no need to complicate it!

I had no Idea Seth was from North Carolina, thought he was from Bentonville, Arkansas. This time last year I was looking for a new place to move to and call home. Brevard, NC was a first stop and Asheville, NC was on my second. In March this year I bought a 1995 Mercury Cougar that had been in desperate need of help far more than I realized. little did I know, that Cougar was blessing. If I didn't buy that Thunder-Cat and moved up to North Carolina as planned...I'd be S.O.L. I guess I'll have to try again in the spring when the snow melts. In the meantime, I hope everyone up there is doing well and improving little by little. Hope Seth's daughter is doing well and things are going in her and everyone's favor :)

Man-made climate change is intensifying extreme weather events and making them occur more frequently. Tropical storms have never developed in ocean waters this warm since humans have existed on this planet. If anyone says this is political I'd like them to point out where I said anything about the political system. This ain't about politics, it's about bringing in a future where our children and their children can grow up in a habitable environment.

For those who don't know the term, "1 in a thousand" refers to a chance per year, and doesn't actually mean they're spaced a thousand years apart. That said, yes, their frequency is increasing so they're not as rare as they used to be.

Quite ironic to see everyone in big gas guzzling SUVs then... Almost like it's the result of people's collective actions. Americans produce twice the CO2 per year than Europeans, and even them so much CO2 that we'd need 4 planets... I wish everyone the best, but this will just get worse.

Seth, you've already got enough on your mind, but I would not be carrying gas in the bed of the gator. Its sitting right on top of the engine & exhaust, and it only takes a little leak for something to potentially ignite. If you do have to transport, make sure all spouts & vents are closed (some look open at 6:54...), drive cautiously, put a tarp or something underneath to prevent spills, and strap the gas tanks down securely. I am a former engineer for a side-by-side/ATV manufacturer. Glad you're safe & doing well.
