Mark Stewart my dad was in the united States Marine corps. He was a mechanic and an instructor on the OV-10 Bronco. He was in the first class to be taught about the OV-10. Excuse the expression but that air plane was my playground for a while. When I was 7 my dad had permission to let me get in one, I was up close and personal. From then for about a year or so I would play pilot. I wish they would re fit it update it and put it back in service.

Good memories! I remember being in junior high at Sembach AB in Germany when my father was stationed there. ISAF OV-10’s were based there in a FAC role. Because of that, a squadron of A-10’s was always forward deployed there as well from their base in the UK. So I had the dual benefit of seeing both aircraft flying around the area every single day. Thanks for the video!

@chesterfield38847 жыл бұрын
This plane was a forward air controller in Vietnam and was the replacement for the Cessna O2-A. Its mission was to find ground targets and mark them with smoke rockets so they could be bombed. Ground troops feared the FAC planes as they knew if they shot at them and gave away their positions then a very nasty response was soon to rain down on their heads. For this reason FAC planes were not often shot down as the best thing to do when one started loitering overhead was to hide.

Had a large framed photo of him flying one about 5,000 (?) feet up, it was on the back of his office door. He was standing in the pilot's seat with his ass pressed against the window. Hence the phrase "pressed ham". I really hope he is doing well, he was a good man. ✌ God Speed.......

Funny how people think if these things as being slow pokey planes because they always conpare them to jets but they are clearly hot little turboprops, way higher performance than most anything on the civilian market. And inside its speed range it is far more maneuverable than a jet, especially if the era it was created. And most people don't realize there is a cargo and passenger compartment in the fuselage which is cool.

One of the many victims of the jet jockey mentality in the US military the need for such aircraft has never lapsed it's just been filled by foreign made junk ! We have always had quality aircraft unfortunately the mentality of our leadership has been driven by men who ignore the true needs of the services ,that's the reason it's taken so long to get a replacement for the A-10 into the works and that on multiple occasions the jet jockeys have tried to scrap the few A10s we have in inventory! Not every thing needs to cost a billion dollars a copy and require 50 computers to stay in the air! The country would be better served with quality aircraft that can be kept functioning by your average conscript aged airmen,Not a fellow who has to have a fck PhD from MIT!
