It's a dumb design, used to be real slow on my old 500 and 700 Sportsmans (1/4-1/2 a wheel turn to engage). The system was terrible in the snow and in slow maneuvers. The engine brake worked on the front wheels 1 in 8 times if lucky, going down rutted or rocky hills was crazy sketchy. I like having a button to lock 4WD and get actual 4 wheel engine braking and having a separate button to lock the front diff like on my 750 King. The Cadillac ride is the only thing I miss of my old Polarises.

In 2wd if my 1000xp senses wheel spin the front wheels are engaged by the electric front diff engagement. Hd atv gear pinion bearing plate upgrade is a must on these bikes. Without it the front diff bearing plate explodes

I have a 2017 sportsman 1000xp. In 4 wheel drive is instant engagement not like the old system. I can spin all day in 2 wheel drive my 4 wheel doesn't kick in automatically.

I had my dad's Yamaha grizzle 700 plunged in a ditch full of water I got stuck kept it running it never shut off and stopped moving put it on a trailer and never shut it off brought it home dad came home from work showed him lol he almost killed me but we changed the oil and drain plugs and it can just fine lol

Mud Puppy you csn upgrade to the 1000xp rear part of the brakeline. Buy a set of the solid no holes for mud rotors. Put them up front. Bring 1 rotor back . You ll need 4 extra rotor bolts. And maybe a left rear hub if yours wont accept a rotor. The bearing carrier has the caliper mounts so all ya need is a caliper. 140 bucks on amazon. Bleed n go. If i grad a hand full of brake lever on my 1000xp with 30 inch monstermayhams all 4 wheels lock up on gravel road.

I have a sportsman 850 highlifter and I don’t have any complaints with it I love the thing, only had it stuck 3 times. If I were to buy another one it would be a 1000 for sure just for the extra components the 1000 comes with but definitely no lack of power with either option

Austin Walker exactly, you buy a Polaris rzr that has so much power it breaks axles and blows belts, you buy a john deere gator or something that doesn't have tons of hp and they never blow belts, Polaris rzr axles are scrawny and long, Hondas may not have tons of power and be extremely fast but for pulling they are beasts, my 99 Honda 300 was hooked up to a 3500 pound horse trailer and it pulled it in 1st gear, the trailer has about 400-500 pounds of tongue weight too, Hondas are beasts and thats a fact
