Apparently disney was in a bad spot around when Marvel was bought by them. They wanted a big series like LOTR or Harry Potter. They knew Marvel would probably work up until avengers and then after that they had no clue. Would there still be success after the climax of the story? Could they milk it for all it was worth. I guess only time would tell. They decided they had other ideas like rebooting (probably not the right word) old franchises like Tron. I think there might have been another. The point is they were hoping from would be their Star Wars or Fast and the Furious. The cash cow. Unfortunately for Tron fans Marvel succeeded in captivating the general populace and snuffed out the idea of tron going further. Tron was by no means a financial failure however it was a success just not a huge one. But I believe it made back it's budget and some. I hope tron comes back and is good. I dont want it to come back like Ghostbusters did twice or these other reboots/really late sequels

Tron Legacy. One of the best sequels ever. What’s not to like, CGI that still holds up well 12 years later, great actors portraying their characters, and one of the best soundtracks for a movie made by F*CKING DAFT PUNK!!!!

Another fun fact about the show: All five Herbies used in the show were all leftovers from the 1980 movie Herbie Goes Bananas, and all have disappeared after filming the show. Though, a last known sighting of a car used in the show was in the 1983 Knight Rider episode Blind Spot, which appears multiple times in several scenes.
