When my friend and Sundae Crush drummer Dan was selling an old partscaster, he got a trade offer for a guitar he wasn't really interested in. But I sure as hell was. The guitar? A '70s Epiphone Crestwood!

I had one of these. It was stolen when I was living in Michigan circa 1984 and I've been looking for it ever since. First guitar I ever bought with my own money. They are under rated guitars.

I bought this exact guitar in 1993 for $140. It became my goto for 20 years of playing live shows. Couple practices a week. Always played in multiple bands. One of those, hey I got to play for thousands a number of times. Hundreds a ton of times. Tens for too many to ever count. But I love that neck. And Ive never looked this guitar up. Literally just thought to try and find out the model on the internet. Lol. Cool to see it on here. My poor girl has had dozens of operations and gone through so many pickups and is punk rock stickered 10 layers thick. I swear theres a half pound of sticker weight on her. But something about it just made me love it and I think it only didnt get used at a few shows. Due to my shabby wiring. I put a brass nut on it and threw a good Seymore Duncan in it when I got it and it always sounded amazing. Especially for what it was. Im dragging on. Point was that neck is so unique. It meased me up for Les Pauls and ESPECIALLY Fenders. Its just so thin but just deep enough. Now at this point with the last ahow I played in 2014. Ive played a Les Paul since. Recently restrung the old Epi and did NOT love it the way I once did. It kinda made me sad. 😢 Time changes everything I guess. Cool video! Super fun to see one. I think I only ever saw one other at a little guitar shop over all those years.

Oh ya. Love mine because we were both made in 1973. And wanted to know what whammy bar to get? I tried several I ran across over the years and none ever fit properly. Never had one.

Hi Emily, These were made in Japan by Matsumoku between 1973 and 1975. They were called, as you stated, ET 275, but they were modeled on the USA made Crestwood, hence their being sometimes referred to as such. The vibrato is an Aria style and is adjustable which might make it less stiff for you to use. I found your statement about the fretboard being "flat" interesting as these guitars have a 7.25 " Fender spec fretboard radius, which is far from flat. An interesting fact is the Ebony version of this model has a bound neck and headstock and the Cherry Sunburst version does not. A good friend has had one of these since the mid-Seventies, so I'm quite familiar with this model. www.epiphonewiki.org/index/ET-Series.php#ET-275

That's so cool. I've had one since 1993 and it became my goto fir 20 years of playing shows. Never even knew the model til today. Haven't played it much the last ten years but was always curious about it. Never saw more than one other those 20 years I was always using it. If you have much info or history about it I'd love to hear anything about them.

Epiphone…performance is our passion! My mom bought me one of those back in 1984 secondhand. Mine was black and I think was from the early to mid70s. I wanted to play distorted rock guitar but my music teacher insisted I play on a clean amp so I ended up busting my speaker when I discovered if I cranked it up all the way I could somewhat get that distortion effect. Why the heck wouldn’t somebody inform me about a dirt pedal😂 Would have made my life a whole lot easier. Anyway today I have a very nice collection including Epiphones!

I think the paraphrased quote from this video is "I've been told it's also a Crestwood but that might not be true, I've gotten mixed signals."
@HadrianRex
@HadrianRex 3 жыл бұрын
@@GetOffset It's not a Crestwood. Crestwoods were American-made 60s set-neck Epiphones with the same body shape but different headstocks and tremolo systems. Epiphone started making reissues of those 60s models in the last few years. This guitar is just called an ET-275. I have the same black ET-275 as you, but mine came with the metal cover for the tremolo.

Its a very odd bridge. I've had mine completely apart a number of times. Not sure if there's much you can do but I've never had the whammy. And got mine in 1993. So there may actually be but it really is a strange design.
@notmillionaires
@notmillionaires Жыл бұрын
Was cleaning mine up as I was watching these. There is a spring under that bridge I forgot. So ya I need to get the whammy bar to play around. See if we can adjust the tension very much.

I believe this is called a wilshire. In the late 50s, epiphone came out with the coronet (budget), wilshire(mid range), and crestwood (high end) models. These 70s ones were a take on that I guess.
@HadrianRex
@HadrianRex 3 жыл бұрын
The 70s ones are inspired by the 60s guitars, but the 70s ones aren't technically Crestwoods, Wilshires, or Coronets. The 60s guitars had set necks and different tremolos. The 70s Japanese guitars have bolt-on necks. I have an ET-275 just like hers. Everything is stock. Epiphone has reissued the 60s models in recent years.
