Hi Steph and Kev. , watching you get going on this project made me realize i needed an MGB GT, So I bought one off marketplace. And it needs a dashboard overhaul. I've watched this a couple of times and felt totally comfortable digging into it, so thanks for that. I figure if I keep following along maybe mine will get finished too. Love your banter also, it makes me miss my gal pal wrenching buddy. I moved to California, so we don't get into trouble as often. :-) Oh, and, I think I'll be using that overdrive switch number!

Great video. I seem to remember the purpose of the dash light switch is so you can leave the side lights on when you're parked on an unlit street and keep the interia of the car in darkness.

Oh this is good Steph, I like these vids. I have to say, one of the things I enjoyed most last year was getting all the dash and woodwork out of my car last year, refurbishing it, buying veneer and redoing all the wood and fitting it all back again. Very satisfying to look at your handiwork and feel pleased that "I did this".

Another clear and well informed video. It looks like a very simple job, and I was surprised that the factory used Sellotape to stick the plastic but I can see why. Hope your home renovation is going ok too

Steph, most people in the Classic car world are so wonderful at giving valuable advice on how to do complex things a bit easier! I just love seeing you giving it a try! If you don't try you won't learn!! Remember women showed they could do manufacturing during WW2!!

You do a great job with these videos and no one was born knowing how to put cars together. We learn over time and even then we have to have a few runs at it or at least idea. Also… dash looks very smart, very smart indeed.

Kev's MGC must be a very late model then, as production stopped in 1969, with the last few being modified (either cosmetically, by fitting a tuned engine or both) by a London MG dealer. Great vid BTW. I have a car that needs building if you want to make a video about putting it together once you've built Kev's MG lol.
@kevinhirst4108

Indeed it is! A 1969, so I think last ones registered were 1970, the model wasn't a success, which is a shame really! My speck year I'm building it to with early seats is 67, just love the purity of the early car 🤔🤔🤔

I was watching a video on how to replace the head gasket on a Jaguar XJ40 and the person completely skipped the most important bits to make sure the engine won't brick itself at first start: how to position the camshaft sprockets and the distributor. So I agree with Steph, it's better having too many detail than not enough!

Do you have to send your old dash in exchange for a new one, I will be removing my dash & refurbishing it myself with crackle paint hopefully cheaper than buying a brand new one.

This is a really question. I actually have no idea but I’m speaking to the MGOC spares team tomorrow and I will find out.
@kevinhirst4108
@kevinhirst4108 3 ай бұрын
Don't attempt it yourself, it's very difficult! You have to have the dash at a specific temperature, then coat it with the same paint at a higher temperature, it's never worked for me! The finish from the MGOC spares is second to none, it wasn't a fortune in relation to the value of the car, in my opinion?

I'm always suspicious of people who demonstrate something like this and get it exactly right first time. They might do retakes and editing to make themselves feel smug but it just puts other people off because they'll feel they can't live up to it.
