You can only get a Paddock Pass if you are a member of the GRRC, or the GRRC Fellowship, (you can have two per member, and you can lend them to other people as long as not more than two people are in there at any one time) but that only applies to the three sections of paddocks in the middle, the other two areas, next to the hangar, and to the north of the pedestrian tunnel, are free for everyone to walk round.

I'm late to the party, but picked up a mk2 for my nephew, the later cars had access panels either side of the engine, this can be done to the mk1s. It enables access to the oil filter etc

Thanks Steph for the reminder of what a great weekend I had with two mates. The weather was rubbish and the camp site tracks were ghastly but the racing was something else. It’s best described as being in a vintage parallel universe for three days, quite magical.

I remember in the 70s and probably even in to the 80s there were so many BMC and later BL dealers. Just in Altrincham area we had Arden & Bull in Altrincham, and Timperley, Wood Lane garage in Timperley, Drabble & Allen in Hale. My Grandpa bought his Austins from Arden & Bull and my Dad was even their accountant at one time. I worked at their garage in Timperley when I was 18, and I bought my Mini second-hand from Drabble & Allen. Only one of them is still a "garage" and that's just a petrol station now.

My father was a used car dealer in the early 2000s so I got to ride on a lot of different Ambassadors as a child, back then I'd be embarrassed to be seen on an Ambassador but today I'd pay good money for one in good condition

5:56 One little correction though, you'll mostly see Ambassador taxis in and around Kolkata, in the rest of India including the south Ambassadors are mostly used privately and they're getting increasingly rare

I would have liked to own a taxi version. I have an Austin FX3, and a Fairway, London taxis. Nice to see younger people enjoying older cars. I passed my car driving test when I was 17, in 1971. By the time I was 21, I had owned 25 cars. Everything from a Trojan (Heinkel) bubble car, to a Daimler Majestic Major. Ford Consul, Mk 3 Zodiac, MGZB, Sunbeam Alpine sports, etc. Enjoyed the video, thanks and well done

Oh right, thanks. I didn’t get a good look at that on the day. It was tipping it down when I was initially in that area. I go for one day and have to balance the split between watching races I want to see and wandering around the other attractions. Looks like a nice Mini that’s got bent though.

Fun car. You've a lovely breezy knowledgeable way of presenting the history of these cars. Cadence braking (to my understanding) is more of a fast brake pumping technique pre ABS to stop your wheels from locking up into a dangerous skid, rather than much slower brake fade management, to stop your brakes from just not working very effectively. I could be wrong.
@JohnSmith-pl2bkКүн бұрын
From another commenter: The rotation of the drum pulls the shoe in to harder contact with a "self- servoing" action - that's why they snatch & cadence braking gives you more control.

9:00 In the early 1970s I often accompanied my dad to get various parts for whatever BMC/BLMC car he had at the time. They had a workshop, parts department, showroom and even a petrol station. The buildings are still there, occupied by local servicing and repair businesses.

Steph, Well that does it. Next year I’m taking the 5000 mile flight in England to attend “the Goodwood Revival 2025” The British have so many so fantastic classic car related events. California has a ton of great car events too but I’d rather go back to England. Please let me know if there is a specific website to handle accommodation etc. “Hopefully” I can bring one or two cars back to Utah with me! Thanks again for all the fine work you do to share this channel with the rest of us! Russell🇺🇸🇬🇧

I think if you go to Goodwood Revival website they may have accommodation info. But don't leave it too long as places get booked up now .
@simonbennett968719 сағат бұрын
Goodwood offer camping pitches on estate fields which get booked up pretty quickly, (and this year due to rain were pretty muddy!) or the extremely limited number of rooms at the Goodwood Hotel which are pretty expensive normally but are *really* expensive during the big events. If you want to stay anywhere close you will need to book a hotel, b&b or holiday let and because of demand they book up very quickly and are expensive. Everything close by is probably booked up already since the 2025 dates have been released (12th to 14th of September). Goodwood provide a free shuttle bus from Chichester Station on event days so you could stay further away near a station and come in by train, but if you have several people in your group the train tickets might get pricey overall. Possibly the only practical option for you will be a b&b several miles away plus a rental car.
