In some of my 67 Impala vids I use a 8" variable speed grinder/buffer with 40 or 50 grit discs to remove thick bondo and gooey lacquer paint. Be carful on the body lines and don't gouge it in deep then the heavy scratch can be knocked down with 80 grit on a d.a. sander. Makes it go faster....sand, sand and sand some more.

Now all you need is the ZZ572 big block.

Lots of Sanding KT. The Monte looks very solid. Doesn't look like you will need a lot of metal work which is a good thing.

Good progress. I'm looking forward to the electrolosis video. I use it for small parts but need to construct a tank for larger parts. Good luck. I hope it works for you.

Holy bondo Batman! You got that cleaned up real nice though. I can't wait to see the electrolysis.

+asicerik | Thanks Erik! Yeah, must've been a cake decorator moonlighting as a body man that did that door and fender! I always shake my head at that kind of work. I got the tank on the trailer and hauled it around to the garage where I'll begin the fill/washing powder/fill action to try and get the balance right. I'm going to do one of the rusty El Camino doors first before set my only 71 Monte Carlo hood in there. ;-) Thanks for stoppin in!

Dig the timelapse! made me miss knockin back a bunch o buckskins under that Texas sky. Thats dedication, i hate removing bondo more than i hate removing Gas tanks LOL

+Swilling | Thanks Sam! I only wish the camera could have shown how much ended up in the grass and on the driveway when I was finished grinding it away. Cams never do the real tragedies justice, LOL! I'll be cutting those templates soon. I watched you windshield channel repair vid last night and you're knocking that one out of the park! Thumbs way up!

Where are parts 1 and 3+? You’re doing everything I’m trying to do, right now. Barn, epoxy, lift, Monte, electrolysis. I’d love to see more!

Lee, congrats on your progress! I'm hoping for some budget relief with a Christmas. I've sort of put myself on hold until I can get room to work on them again, since I lost the garage to my wife's car LOL. Thanks for checkin in!

How did u get the rear bumper off? My 72 isn't going so hot at the moment lol
@512kjt3 жыл бұрын
Hey James! I believe I pulled two bolts each off of the left and right side and found some more bolts in the trunk to the left and the right. The last two, IIRC were up in under the bumper in the middle where the license plate gas tank access is.

I've got my 72 converted to a 96 350 from a van, put in a 700r4 trans. Currently trying to get the trans setup. Waiting on a pressure plug for trans so it will shift properly.

She is in real decent condition! Are you going to slap the dent out of the door or replace it? I think the Monte Carlo is going to be a nice project! Ya know I am putting a LS1 in my Chevelle, I bet a LS1 would be bad ass in a monte carlo ;) Just an Idea, you could install a truck 5.3 and with a cam she would put out almost 400 hp lol

Really could have used some footage about how the body molding comes off at the rear of the fender. Those funky spring clips are a pain in the butt and I can't figure out how they go back on and I thought maybe your video might help me out if I saw how they were removed again but you're just showing what you did not how it's done sorry bud but not very helpful as far as informational material goes. Thanks anyway
