Arnold was universally loved by all his fans! He also looks like the kind of guy who never invested in golf lessons-he worked on his game all by himself! Went right out there and did it, and earned it! He is missed by everyone! Seemed like a true gentleman!

Ok here’s my Arnold story. I was 24 yrs old and at the 1986 Bay Hill tournament which of course Arnie hosted and he was standing around talking to someone and I approached him with my program which I asked him to sign and he was ready to oblige except for one thing: I didn’t have a pen! What an idiot I felt like! He shrugged his shoulders and I don’t remember exactly all the things that proceeded from there, but I do remember he waited until I grabbed a pen and he did sign my program. Great human being. His “everyman” persona was authentic. Unfortunately, I cannot find that program. Still an idiot! 😄

I remember this, at that time the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic was kind of a big deal as celebrities and legends would participate, most at the personal invitation of Bob Hope. Six years before this, one of the pro-am groups featured Bob Hope, George HW Bush and Bill Clinton, one of the coolest moments in Tour history.

His swing may not have been "long and flowing" ala Payne Stewart, Sam Snead, but he obviously did the most important things to generate club head speed and get the club *through* the ball. He's doing a great 71 yr old swing getting the *club* moving, and keeping the body motion compact. More or less how Doug Sanders swung his whole career. Stopping the arms and hands near the ball, and letting the clubhead fire through, is much more efficent than dragging the arms, hand and club all at once through the ball
