Playing in these things was gravy for Trevino. He once was answering questions about pressure, and he said "playing on the PGA tour isn't pressure, putting to win a $20 match when your pockets are empty is pressure".

Lee was always my favorite while I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. Brilliant golfer, delightful entertainer while playing, and a humble man who never lost appreciation for where he came from. With all his achievements, I recall his answer to an interviewer’s question about how he’d want to be remembered: “I’d like to be remembered as one of the better players of the Nicklaus Era.” Now that’s a true sportsman.

Watched this live on a Sunday afternoon while doing math homework. Herman on the bag. I played the hole twice the same day in 1999 off the tips. First try was on the fringe, 2 putt par. Second try at sunset, hit it 6 inches. Best birdie of my life. Lee was a great watch. Vin Scully on the call!

I watched this live and never missed a Tour challenge showing, was always great fun!!! I also miss the 3 tour challenge TV show around the same time of the year, PGA-Senior PGA and the LPGA all competed against each other and it was a blast to watch!!!

I took up golf in mid 90's, so of course went to west coast events here in CA. Senior events I loved to follow Lee around the course. What a player! And when conditions got tougher, so did Lee, especially in wind. Jesus, he was good.

I've been an avid golf gallery guy since the 1970s. I usually pick a golfer and follow for all 18 holes. Lee Buck was definitely one of my favorites. Followed him a bunch of times at the Buick Open, the Senior TPC in Dearborn, MI and at Oakland Hills a couple of times. Entertaining guy. Great player. Solid shot after solid shot.

They really played differently back then. He took a 6 iron on 167yard shot but set up the ball quite bit to the left and cut into it to get more backspin with 70% swing. I cant imagine anybody today taking a 6 iron on this distance. I guess they were more creative back then?

I was on a road trip about a month after that and detoured to see that golf course. In the clubhouse, they had hung a giant scorecard from the Skins Game. It was about 20 feet by 5 feet. Pretty special to see that "1" on the 17th hole. I don't know if it was this shot or the bunker shot he holed for eagle on a par four, but his quote about, "...it's what I was aiming at." still makes me laugh.

Went to 2 of these skins games in palm springs when couples, Duvall were playing.......I played this hole from 147 yds (8 iron) and stuck it to 3ft....played horrible all day but stiffed it on this one.....tough course Trevino was always a favorite..... 167 yds nowadays be 9 iron or wedge......how times have changed...

I just watched the movie "Seve", him and Trevino both grew up with the game from very humble beginnings. Seve wasn't poor like Trevino but they both learned the game with old clubs and plenty of passion, determination, and heart.

I remember watching this on TV. What can be easily lost is how much money this was considered at the time, for the game. I believe Greg Norman made $600k that year as the leading PGA tour money leader, and that was an astronomical amount, so dunking it for that for $175k seemed unreal.

Wow, this really shows how far equipment (clubs and balls) have come in 34 years. Lee hit a 6 iron on this 167 yard shot. Pros today would hit 9 or at most 8 irons.

They were using traditional lofts. Clubs today are almost 2 clubs hotter. The number on the bottom doesn't mean the same.
