I built up a street engine for my 1974 Olds 350 several years ago and remain very pleased with the Voodoo 262/268 cam. Has 9-1 compression, Performer intake, and Sniper EFI. Excellent vacuum and plenty of low end torque. Runs well on 87 octane. With the wider LSA, it does not have a rough idle, but still noticable.

I also lowered the idle since this video to about 750 to 800 and it sounds amazing, but I'm not sure its worth the sound. Its bark is much bigger than its bite. And I would imagine the XE268 sounds really good too.

There's nothing like classic American Muscle with a big lumpy camshaft thank you for this video it was awesome, muscle rules!

Thanks for the reply. your answer seems to be the general answer from most Thumper cam owners. After much research im gonna go with the XE268 it should be a pretty hard running car. and yes from the sound of a couple vids on here it does still sound pretty dang good.

A Howards Rattler cam sounds good, Makes more power than a thumper and will still give you 12'' of vacume. I run olds motors. Nice Cutlass.

What LSA do the Olds street engines like?

@@trailerparkcryptoking5213 109 is perfect in my opinion for a lot of street/strip type builds.

If I had the choice between the XE268H and the thumper, I would personally choose the 268. The thumper does sound really good, and smoothes out immediatly, but it lacks low end torque and I'm really having a hard time with the low vacuum issues. But it does pull really good in the midrange rpm... 3000 to 4000 rpm. I'm considering trying a 3000 stall and seeing if that helps.

Sounds great

hey thanks for the reply. yeah after a ton of research and asking around on the web the 268 looks to be the way to go. it is just ground better for an olds motors likings. and its power curve is right smack in my motors sweet spot.. i would love the bad ass idle but its not worth it to give up the low end.

Thank you, and it has an H pipe.

Sounds wicked man! I have pretty much the same car and I was wondering...is that a h pipe ? Sounds badass man! Get more vids!

im looking to do this same set up with my 71 Olds. i want to run this cam but just cant make up my mind. also looking at Comp XE268H. i love the sound of the Thumper but wondering if the XE would perform better. Even with the stall you recommend more low end?

6 inches of vaccum? Thats terrible given the small size of that cam...typical of that line of cams.
@tommysgoat8 ай бұрын
Yeah I learned my lesson on that one. Even with a vacuum canister it was dangerous to drive. I have a much better combo now.

hey ratmouth, maybe get a little educated and realise that the duration, overlap and center line required to make that "awesome sound" does indeed make power, at a higher rpm this is why most of the drag cars you hear sound this way to. the more overlap the further up the power band your hp is going to made and generally it will be a larger total amount. thanks next plz.
@thelaborpeasant10 жыл бұрын
Oh really? Is that why two Thumpr owners below had a convo about how their car's "bark is much bigger than its bite"? Thanks for coming to the rescue and dropping a little education on us but i agree with Rat here. Theres little reason for a thumpr cam when the XE line will give you better results. A big cam doesnt always mean better performance. Lots of people over cam and lose performance when a milder cam and broad torque curve is whay they really need. Especially in an Olds where a big cam/high RPM build is begging to spin bearings. The typical Chevy "one size fits all" mentality doesnt work on an Olds, and 4000rpm of fat torque will always hand you a better street/strip car than 1500rpm of peak horsepower thanks, next plz

Evan B hey never did I say It was better for your applicaition or If your motor would hold up ect. all i did was state the facts on how cams work. there is no throw parts in mentality here. my responce was to ratmouth trashing a cam bc its just sound. where that isnt possible in this situation. so while your other cam may be the best choice for your application dont run around trashing something and leading other on with untrue statements. bc regaurdless duration overlap and lift always win the hp battle. maybe not on a lower rpm broad curve like the olds is made for but it still doesnt change the facts.

@@OldMillennialGamer. Internet cam expert? Don’t even mention the importance of LSA! Most of the shelf grinds are intended for longevity not max effort performance, that’s why serious people get with an expert for a custom grind. I’m certain with your level of expertise many gearheads consult you for cam recommendations!?!
