Your content is a guilty pleasure. When I see an upload from you I tell myself I don’t have time for that useless content. Then I click on it. I waist my time watching it and I love it. I left all social media 7 months ago and when I struggled to do that I knew I was doing the right thing. I have had many family and friends try to get me back on social media and I just tell them I’m much healthier for not being on them and if it’s important in their mind that I know something then they can call me and talk to me about it. It’s ironic that social media was suppose to be the purpose to help connecting with others but it really doesn’t do that. Glad to see you give it a try and realize the things I’ve learned.

Being 15 years older than you I have done this challenge a few times over the years. I never really got in the social media aspect of comparing my life to anyone else's but I sure didn't miss the multiple interruptions to my day. At least you still have both your parents and real social life of family and friends. I always think of the people who don't really have a social life outside of electronics. I did enjoy seeing you get by without advanced electronics. Before I retired I used to tell people that I won't use my cell or computer after 8pm Friday until 8am Monday and contact me with landline. You, me and I would think most people need a reset just like our electronics do every once in a while. Thanks for doing and posting this. Best wishes on future non electronic endeavors.

I ditched social media back in 2012, but I commend you for your goal, Social media is a drug for so many people and most have no idea the negative impact it has on them. I think its funny to see you of all people taking on this challenge because to me you have always been the Queen of SciFi, in which technology is implicit. On that note, thank you for all you hard work and dedication to your career as an Actress. Battle star, Riddick, 24, Another life, just to name a few and not to mention all the voice over work you have done. I hope you know that you are a staple in the SciFi community for many of us out here. It's nice to see you are a normal person too. Thank you for being you Katee.

Don't feel "less than", Katee. Even with all the self-esteem issues I've had over the years, I don't feel "less than" when on Social media. As far as your less than list, just remember if you ever think you're "less than" because you think someone is prettier than you, remember you have friends, like me, who believe there isn't a prettier person in the world, and a more beautiful soul in the world. You're an amazing person. Never feel "less than". Jeez, I can't believe I'm giving you advice, after you gave me some last week. You are the best. ✌💖😊

Hi Katee, I hope you are well. Thank you for your video. It has inspired me to do something Ive wanted to do for such a long time, deactivate my Facebook page. I was getting so sick to death of reading how someone ate an apple for lunch or how their child got a trophy for coming last. I just wanted to go back to actually talking to friends and family instead of reading online on Facebook how they were doing. You know what, you're right when you said that everyone is thinner or has a better life than you and Im in the same situation as you. So, why torment myself with seeing their posts (even though I know deep down their life is really no better than mine). Its time to reconnect with my true friends and my family and you know? Ive been looking forward to this for such a long time so a massive thank you for giving me a nudge in the right direction. I feel truly happy. xxxxx

Some helpful tips I've learned are: 1). Turn off your notifications for email and all social media (even the little notices for how many you have in your inbox). You can choose when to read them or engage in it when you want. Trust me, you aren't missing anything. 2). Take the first hour of the day for yourself. Get an alarm clock and turn your phone on when you want. 3). Keep your phone on silent for most (or some) of the day. Again, you can choose when to be updated. Constant distractions reduce productivity. Bravo on engaging in real social encounters (face to face)! It makes a huge difference. Great video, hope others try to do what you did! :)

Hi Katee, loved you in BSG and Another Life! Even with family, friends, employment agencies urging me to do FB, I flat out refuse! I never do FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc! I have 6 kids, 9th grandchild on the way, so they know I don't bother with FB or Social Media. It really is destructive, a time sink, and harmful to compare yourself to others. I do love my smart phone, but it's a tool, that's all! Balance is key in life! Your commentary here was insightful and well thought out, bravo! I once did long distance internet connections, waste of time. Real connections with real people are far more rewarding. My life centers on my wife, cat (she's awesome!) and connecting with family in person, phone, texts, pictures! Balance is important, wish the young knew this!

Social media is a double-edged sword much like technology. It gives and takes. For example, moments before I started watching this video I was lying in bed alone with a splitting headache thinking about how much multiple sclerosis has taken from me. (In this case an entire night of sleep.) Now I'm lying here with a splitting headache thinking, "Cool. Starbuck is relatable. I worry about these things too." So, while we're not having an actual face-to-face conversation, you've brightened a space I occupy for a bit. If you really stop to think about that, if you fully comprehend the magic of not knowing someone but still passing through their space in a positive way, it's beautiful.

Just finding out Katee has a youtube channel no idea how this ended up in my feed but is the first video of hers I watched. I did the unplugged thing and just went on a camping vacation for 2 weeks, to which all my friends says doesnt count. So trying to prove a point I said fine and would extend it another 2 weeks, ohh was it so much different trying to go about my normal day unplugged. First off Katee is so right about no navigation assistance (face palm) but my friends put some different rules in on me couldnt use any cards like no credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, and couldnt use my cell phone so no e-pay either. I would love for people to actually sit down and think when was the last time you actually went into a bank up to a teller just to pull some cash out of your accounts, before this I really couldnt tell you the last time I went into a bank I think it might have been to sign my mortgage. Then you find out some of the places you go regularly no longer take cash, never thought about it until then. But what did I do while unplugged I went to work like normal, I spent more time with Family, friends, and neighbors. Spent four hours driving around trying to find a bookstore because not allowed to use ebooks, and did a bunch of wood working make a couple of nice endtables and a nice drysink (Friends didnt say anything about power tools).

Well Done Katee, as someone whom has been fighting demon's a long time decided to take this kind of action, starting with dropping addictive hobbies like MMORPG's, surfing internet, I know get out of my home and interact more with real people. I finally got my Skyline and the hunt for parts make it mandatory to engage others (Haggle) which I found I love lol. It's simple more need to disconnect for the false emotional, physical connection we get by looking at others through a phone or camera on a PC. The human body needs the physical, tactile, chemical (pheromone's) lol. It's the lack of these creating disconnect on all levels. I've been on this adventure now almost a year and won't go back. What's funny is a lot now thing I'm Brash or over bearing, what's funny is I think people just are not accustomed to real interaction. Katee again thanks. It is nice to see someone whom may be able to influence others to engage with the real and realize it's not easy in the beginning, but when it clicks a load just falls off your shoulders, and you're wondering why you had never done it.

WELCOME TO KZbin KATEE!! really great video! very deep and you kept a boring topic very engaging. I absolutely loved you on Battlestar! Maybe do a video of a reunion with the cast? or at least Trisha? I know you mentioned her in this vid. Keep it up!

Good Job Katee. I’ve been wanting to do this. Based on your input I’m going to give it a shot. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Love, love, LOVE this!! Great idea, as I waste so much time on my phone/tablet during the day. I always say that I'll do something else, but get magically drawn back into the electronics. Time to go bake something or do some gardening - without electronics. I know no one will miss me, but I miss me! :) Love ya, Katee! :)

Great video Katee!!! Great view of our society change from no technology to today's world. I knew you could do it. We have all done it before and knew you would see the best of this test.

I’m so confused. Starbuck has a KZbin channel? And for like... maaany many years... and just now, randomly, shows up in my feed... 🤔 I like it. I mean I like the fact that I can see the human side of one of my favorite people. So random.

This was hilarious! I too am of the age to remember life before tech! Now I barely remember my own phone number. It comforts me that you also still maintain a land line - I’m not the only one!

btw Katee - after watching and listening to your feedback on this, and having listened to your videos and other vlogs that you do - you come off as one of the amazing people on this planet. so hopefully you never feel you are lesser than other people, bc you most certainly are not! :)

Can we just get a sitcom with you and Tricia as sisters already? It would be epic!

With good directors and writers, that would be cool!!

You are actually pretty cool, I was a bit surprised how much I enjoyed this video and also to find you or anyone else from Hollywood on KZbin. Fantastic video though really makes you think.

Use of electronic devices sure does permeate our daily routines now, and it is amazing how easily we can keep in contact with people out of town or in a different country. I am part of a couple groups where we have online meetings with Zoom, and we are in US, Canada, Australia, etc all on that one online video conference. What used to be so complicated is easy. But, social media does have its shortcomings. After watching your video, I have started logging out of social media accounts after I have checked in and had a look-see, rather than being perpetually “on”. Thank you!
