I love that you’re doing this, seeing how the rest of us live. I think that IF the prices of healthier foods were cheaper than the unhealthy stuff, that top 10 list would be different. However, people on a budget can’t afford the healthy stuff and buy what they can afford. You should try this again but keep the price under say $50 or $100. Unfortunately, that’s how sad our country is right now. This was a very interesting experiment.

The one thing all the people watching should take away from this, is do like you did in the store. READ THE LABELS on your food. See what it is that you're consuming or feeding to your loved ones. If you can't recognize what the ingredient is, it's going to be there for the product's longevity, not yours! Thank you for an enjoyable romp through the grocery store.

Katee, I love your channel and I enjoy seeing you act. There was one line in here that is disappointing. “If you eat crap food you put crap out into the world.” I will be the first to say that my diet is rubbish. That, however, does not negate who I am. I’m an ICU and ER RN. I have devoted my life to helping people. I don’t put “crap” out into the world. To negate someone for their diet is ridiculous. You can be a good person and do good things even if you make mistakes somewhere in your life. It is just offensive to say so.
@KateeSackhoffOfficial4 жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry you were offended. I love that you’ve been enjoying the channel. My goal is to make people smile and I’m sorry that this was your reaction. If I may?....Let me use myself as an example here. When I eat crappy food I don’t perform as well as I usually do. My memory and brain don’t function as best they can. I’m short tempered and easily frustrated throughout the day. My skin doesn’t glow the way it should, my digestion gets put into a knot and I’m not motivated to workout. There are so many things that get thrown off from me eating bad food. When I do so I don’t put my best self out into the world. It doesn’t mean I’m a bad person only that if I’d chosen better food I could’ve maybe put a better version of me out into the world that day. Again I’m sorry you were triggered by this. I wish you nothing but the best and many years of joy and health. 👍🏻

Balance in life is what’s important most, I feel. That being said, there’s so much more involved in our food than what is portrayed and shared. Although well intentioned, things like extraction methods in soy or almond milk are just as important as the ingredients foods come from. Hexane is a highly toxic chemical often used in extraction processes of non-dairy based milks. And so much more! I appreciate the sentiment and the work put into this. It’s a good step in the right direction. Know what you ingest and and where it came from and how it got to you. Then practice a balance in life that benefits your body personally. (Cuz your body type naturally does matter and effect how you digest and use food). Thanks for another wonderful video! I agree to what someone else said too, you have an infectious smile that brightens the screen and world Katee! Love Another Life and have been enjoying your channel. Thanks so much!

I'd love to try the Ezekiel bread, but at almost $5 a loaf.....I can't justify that economically. That's another concern when you're looking to eat healthier-and that's your finances. We live on a terribly low, tight budget. That plays a part in our purchases. Plus I see many of them have nuts on them, and because I have a long, painful history of diverticulitis, that's off my list also. The info out of this is invaluable, Katee. Thanks.

Love the video! What I am curious about is what exactly the interplay between the list of the top 10 items and people’s budget (both time and money) might be. My guess is that the reason those items are the top 10 (excluding the wine, beer, and cigarettes) has to do with a combination of affordability, convenience, and longevity. When you have very limited funds to make ends meet and even more limited time outside of work and responsibilities, you might prioritize items that at cheaper, easier, and longer lasting even if they aren’t as healthy.
@thomosus5 жыл бұрын
Exactly, thats the problem with the "good and healthy life", If I would go now and shop for the bio and healthy I would spend 2x maybe even 3x times more than for basic not so healthy stuff. Not to mention getting that stuff is harder in small town.

Great video Katee. When reading those food labels though, what one determines as “healthy” is heavily dependent on what kind of diet you subscribe to. A “healthy” food that’s approved & endorsed by a govt agency for example will look way different than a healthy Keto food.
@fastzebrazoom44545 жыл бұрын
I cringe when people say carbs are bad. Our bodies absolutely need carbs, and our brains run exclusively on carbs. The key is to watch your intake of them, not to cut them. I've got friends that walk around in a brain fog because they think they have to eliminate carbs. And just another tidbit: Your body looks for carbs to burn as fuel first and foremost. When it can't find them, it looks for protein to burn for fuel. The problem is that your body expends twice as much energy trying to convert protein into fuel because it's not the preferred fuel. Find a good source of complex carbs and look up the amount you need daily for your gender, body weight and life style (active people need more than sedentary people). You're welcome. Peace and love.
@MsHojat5 жыл бұрын
The body expending twice as much energy converting protein into fuel isn't a problem when a person is trying to be mindful of their weight. Effiency of food is something someone would want if their goal was getting fat. There hasn't been anything that I'm aware of that proves minimizing carbs is unhealthy - particularly for people who aren't doing a lot of physical activity. I also haven't really heard of anyone saying that they should be avoided entirely; even the diets like Atkins(and similar) have merely significantly reduced numbers of carbs not outright removal (or maybe that's what you mean by "cut"?)
@fastzebrazoom44545 жыл бұрын
@@MsHojat I'm not sure what you're getting at. The body works the way it works. Simple. And it prefers carbs over protein to run. No philosophical constructs required. And I already said one has to consider how active or sedentary they are when determining carb intake. Now, whether active or sedentary, the body's requirement for carbs doesn't disappear- it need only be adjusted.

I think you are doing great. I like it, I think it is imperative that people understand just because the "common" consensus is that something is healthy does not mean it is. If you hear something said enough you start to believe it, there is nothing healthy about the "Quaker" brand for example most of their products are sugar laden. I do not fault you here, we are from the same generation (though you look much better than most of us from that generation do by this point) and we all heard the same stuff growing up.

I _love_ pigging out on cherry tomatoes too, although I can't afford eating them like that. She talks about how wine is pricey but that little container of tomatoes was probably like 5$+ on it's own (at east where I live) and which gives much less calories (granted, its relatively filling). Many veggies are not at all cheap (they're almost entirely water in weight very low in calories). In fact almost all of them are, with the exception of like carrots, potatoes, and onions, which are great choices for those of you who think _ALL_ veggies are expensive. Cook it up with some spices (either fresh or powered) and it's great.

Interesting video but FYI not all yellow cheese has food additives in it. Cheese made from the milk of grass fed cows turns yellow naturally because it contains beta-carotene. Also even if the cheese is artificially colored it will most likely be annatto, which is an natural color from the seeds of the achiote tree. Nothing wrong with it.
