5:31 Charlie Nicholas the season later would join Arsenal. He even scored in 1987 Littlewoods Cup Final v Liverpool. Another thing Leonard Parkin one of the best newsreaders went back to News At 1 around late 1982

No UK weather forecast after the news. It was straight into the regional news programme. ITV didn't bother about a national weather forecast way back then. At weekends, the ITV regions did a brief local weather forecast after the ads after the news with a still reading Weather Forecast. It really was embarassing.

I take it you're calling it the former in the description because of the notoriety and controversies that the newspaper giant and it's sister companies have gained in recent times. Right? Oh, and by the way, is there any particular reason why you really, really disliked The Smurfs?

I call it the Horseshit on Sunday (sometimes the Heil on Sunday or Fail on Sunday after its sister paper The Daily Fail or The Daily Heil) because it’s such a bigoted, hate-filled piece of shit. The Heil nickname is in reference to the paper’s support for Mosley’s fascists (the Blackshirts) and the Nazi party in the 1930s. For similar reasons, I call a certain red-top tabloid “The Scum”. I hated The Smurfs because it was too twee and saccharine for my liking. I liked other cartoons of that ilk like The Raccoons and I could just about bear The Snorks, but The Smurfs was just too sickly, mawkish and over-sentimental for me. Even as a kid. It was probably something to do with American TV. British TV has always seemed more realistic and grungy for me so being British I can identify with it more. American TV has always seemed very sanitised to me (except Americans seem more accepting of violence in kids TV, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was without its UK censorship) and I can’t identify with the differences of American culture with British culture because I’ve never actually been to the US and lived in their culture, even though we get plenty of (likely biased) exposure to it on TV and in films. I’ve only ever actually liked and regularly watched three American series… Teenage Mutant Ninja (“Hero”) Turtles (late 80s version), seasons 1-12 of The Simpsons before its quality jumped the shark and the early seasons of Family Guy.
