Hi everyone! Thanks for the comments. I’ll be doing more stories on the podcast in the future. 📖📚📙 The story was written by @Aknier on Commaful.com commaful.com/play/aknier/the-mountain/ P.s. if you think the character is a man, you weren’t paying attention! I’m pretty sure it’s a female character. She mentions wearing a skirt (of course men can wear them, but usually it’s women), getting catcalled (almost always women), I think someone mentions her partner as “dad” so the chances are that the character is female, and her nickname “montanita” is Spanish for “little mountain”, and is a feminine word. There are also other possibilities of course 🌈 and anyway - it doesn’t really matter. I think anyone can relate to the character in the story.

Dear Luke, You have a very nice and calming voice. The pace is also excellent. Not too fast and not too slow. Could you please think about doing more stories to help people sleep in these pandemic times? It could help people to calm down, learn English and sleep! I got addicted to doing this. Next day, I usually listen again to the stories and finish them because I slept in the midle of an audio. There are many sites with stories about mistery and crime. These are not good to sleep, but I listen to whatever I can. Romantic and comic stories would be much better. Please think about it! Many thanks.

I also wrote a short story or joke: One late night in December 2022. In China, Shanghai. A young man shouted at the empty street: "Because of you alone, the world will not be peaceful!" Two policemen ran out and subdued him, asking: 'Who are you talking about?' The young man immediately replied: “Zelensky.” The police released him. The young man stand up and took a few steps to leave, thinking that something was wrong, turned back and asked the police: 'Who do you think I'm talking about?' The two police officers looked at each other awkwardly.

Hi Luke, after you read the story, you said it could be a woman or a man. It is clear that the narrator is a woman, as she gave her skirt to her little sister, and got catcalls when she's a young woman. Love the Liam Neeson's "Taken" references too. Thank you for the story -- I think we all know someone like this narrator, or is one. It's especially touching when at the end you realize that she is talking to her dead husband, and maybe even trying to tell him that he doesn't have to worry about her and her children, as she has changed and will protect them now that he's gone.

There were problems that she had to face but bothering others was never in her head.

What a touching story that made me crying. A calm, tender gentleman who loves his true love and family deeply comes from your story into my heart. Thank you.

It is so heart breaking and emotional. It felt like the poem is talking about me….I am in tears all the way through your reading. At least She has had a HE who was so warm , caring and supportive , not like me. Love your teaching , explanation. Thanks a lot, Luke! Will stick to your lessons.

Dear teacher, I feel guilty and ashamed for forgetting to express you my gratitude and admiration each time I read and listen your lessons, which has became in fact almost a day to day habit for me. It means that I find enough time to get some pleasure for me almost each day, but not to do the same for you in return . I beg you pardon. Today I eventually decided to write you this message. You are not only a very gifted teacher of english language and literature, but also a very good and subtle expert in what good literature is in fact. All this because you find the means to express this idea only by yours shorts comments to all kind of humain attitudes in our day to day life . Your comments to „The Mountain” are memorable and delightful by their kind or sarcastic humour. But it was only by listening you a second or third time and by paying attention at ironical expressions of your face and your comments ( really?!, Oh , no, what a perfect marriage, incredible level of winsdom, and finally : a ridiculous good and kind person she is! ) that I realised this. I mean the fact that what you were doing there it was just a lesson of creative writing; suggesting me what an artificial character is this admirable Montanita, not in life, but just I a short story, in a novel etc. etc. Which remembered me the saying ”one doesn't make good literature whith (too many) goods feelings”. And my compliment at the end: your story about the encounter with a bear, is from this criteria much better. Just because your character is made not only of grandiose qualities. So, are you also a writer? Thank you many many times again.

Hi Luke! That is excellent job! And now I should admit that reading is required and becomes necessary for me to improve my English. I would appreciate if you continue to teach English this way. It doesn't matter is the story short or a bit longer, but it should be full of expressions that help us learn the language through emotions. As a teacher, you better know what is good for reading! Keep it up and take care of yourself!

I love this story which reminds me of my old friend. She is the one who has enormous tolerance and patience. Whenever thinking her, I am so grateful of having her as my friend. Still she kept all letters or cards I have sent her over 30 years. We met in our high school. This is my first visit to Luke's English, but I subscribed right away. Thank you for introducing this amazing story!
