The solid state pinballs from the 70s and 80s are just the best.

A beautiful game! I also love how it has the early Williams sounds that were also used in Joust. Did that, along with Gorgar and perhaps Robotron use the same soundboard?

Tri Zone used the First Generation Sound Board. Gorgar was the first to use the Second Generation with the Speech Board. Video Games Joust and Robotron used the same board as Gorgar, but without the Speech Board.

@@727PENGO Ah! That makes senses! I can see why speech was left off games for a few years after…..it wasn’t cheap. Thanks for sharing!

When I was in 5th grade back in 1979, my best friend and I used to smash 💥 this pinball machine. One one quarter we can turn the score back to zero almost every game, but it was so many credits, we came back tomorrow to finish them or the owner gave us .25 cents for each credit. Sometimes it was anywhere from 10-15 credits at the end of the day. EASY POCKET CHANGE 🤣

Didn't know that so many of the sounds for "Joust" were already there.

Doug - love you channel! Looking to perhaps pick up TRI ZONE as my first pin.... is that something you'd recommend (in terms of decent long term playability, ease of upkeep, etc). Thanks for any input! liked/subbed.....

I think Tri Zone is a great game. Since it came out it's still a very fun to play. Pinball Machine due need constant repairs and maintance. There are many games that are in bad condition due to lack of maintance, care, or keeping it in tune. Having a safe place for a game is very important. Some people will have the game in a cold damp room, near a window where the sun hits it all day, or just flat out put the game outside in the elements. These are just some of the things that will destroy a game. It's best to know how to solder, understand electronics, and be mechanically inclinded to keep these machines going. I see many games where people try to repair these games with none of these skills and they usually windup making a disastrous repair job instead of fixing it correctly.
