I remember this movie from when I was like 5 or 6. Must've watched it a hundred times. I loved the car scenes. Love that Torino. 🤗

The dude riding shotgun in the red shirt played the cop that pulled over Sherriff Justice in Smokey And The Bandit then got put in his place and embarrassed when Justice put his foot down. "You can't drive THIS piece of shit on my highway!"

Incorrect. The grille goes all the way across, from outer headlight to outer headlight. This makes it a '73 Torino, which is the name for the base level models. Higher level models were Gran Torino and had a grille in the center with separate chrome bezels around the headlights. Before '72, base models were called Fairlane and higher level models were called Torino.

actually this is a base model “Torino”. “Gran Torino” usually came with a much smaller center grill with separate headlight bezels 72 came with a fish mouth design

It was when the "impact" bumpers started coming in ruining the looks. The '72 used the same body but minus those bumpers, hence why that looked OK.

Don't forget W.W. & the Dixeland Dance Kings of 1973. My personal favorite. The Mighty Jerry Reed played the guitar pickler.

There's two stunt people in that car when it rolled over - which is unusual for a rollover stunt.

Appears to have a C6 transmission. Those only went behind the 429/460 in 73 right?

I had a 1973 Gran Torino with a 351C-2V (Clevland 2-barrel) and a C-6 tranny.

The 351C went from '68 through '74. It was then replaced by the 351M. The 351C used the same motor mounts and bell housing bolt pattern as the 289/302 which was cool because it would bolt in to '66 and later chassis and bolt up to the existing transmission be it manual or automatic. Ford also made a C-6 transmission specially for the 351C which was cool because the hot rodders of the day could install the small block C-6 behind their 289/302's to handle the bigger horsepower home built engines.
