This is one of the episodes that captured the mysterious as good as not many episodes do. I instantly went on the web to look for theories on how this apparition would come to be and what them forgetting about the events could mean. I loved this one! Read something about the Doctor having brought magic to the universe by spreading a rumour in the Wild Blue Yonder, but I’m not certain.

The scariest thing about this episode is that we never actually find out who or what that old woman was, what exactly that fairy circle was for or how or where the Doctor disappeared to. Just like that creature from the 2008 episode Midnight or that creature in Rupert Pink’s (Danny Pink’s) bedroom in the 2014 episode Listen.

The woman was an old Ruby, as shown in the video we see ruby in a nursing home before cutting to her pov to where ruby first saw the woman. So it was her future self always 73 yards away since the doctor first broke the circle.

@@ytjazz1011yeah that was my understanding. And Russell Davies said in an interview and connected the mythology to Doctor Who by saying the the TARDIS perception filter works 73 yards away from the TARDIS. Ruby's curse was a perception filter around her, and the perception filter cast poor feelings towards anyone who interacted with the old woman/old Ruby

I loved this episode. Thought it was one of Russel T Davies’ strongest/unique stories. Doctor-light, yes unfortunately. But I thought Millie Gibson held her ground very well.

This episode was straight out of an old folk tale complete with the evil tyrant, cursed protagonist and so much ambiguity. Say what you will about the plot but RTD nailed the vibe.

I absolutely adored 73 Yards! It was incredibly heartbreaking and quite tough to watch at times emotionally, but the story was brilliant and millie gibson's performance as ruby sunday was incredible! I felt so proud of ruby when she used the mysterious woman to defeat the corrupt prime minister Roger ap Gwilliam, and it was heartbreaking to see everyone around ruby abandon her and her having to grow old alone in a world without the doctor. I cried towards the end watching the older ruby sitting outside the tardis on the cliffs. 😢 A brilliant episode and I'm glad ruby made it back to the doctor! ❤️❤️🔷😊

and it was the very first Doctor episode she filmed, so she not only nailed it out of the gate but did it having to carry it off as the main protagonist :)

It was the best episode in the season by a long way for me. Overall, S14 was a pretty mixed bag. Nice character work. Some great episodes and plots. You can tell RTD was inspired to return to the show. But a lot of the resolutions felt super haphazard. This episode was phenomenal.

Not a fan of this. Would have been good except the ending. If she stopped herself from stepping in it she may have had a better life at first but she won't stop him from launching the nukes. And didn't the doctor mention him before they stepped on it, meaning that didn't create him.

Doctor fool is more like it with the new iteration. Whenever a show doesn't stick to it's own premise the quality suffers. When they changed the number of regenerations for pandering to flavor of the month causes. Or simply to milk a franchise for money producers have sold out. They should be ashamed of themselves.

The show completely abandoned its premise in the 70s and saw the Doctor working for an Earth military organization without the TARDIS. It was widely considered to be very good, and saw the beginning of many staples of the show such as UNIT and the Master.
