At cabin crew training school I was told about 'clear air turbulence'. I was on 747s for BA. Thankfully I never experienced it. For those who aren't sure, clear air turbulence is a column of low air pressure in which the aircraft loses lift, and drops like a stone. When the aircraft reaches a layers of higher pressure, the drop ceases - though (I was told) if the drop is long enough the wings can be torn off. Though I've never heard of that happening even though I flew back in the 1970s, so there have been plenty of years for these incidents to come to light if they did happen. Aircraft are built to withstand enormous stress - and when you see the wings flexing and engines wobbling they are DESIGNED to do that. Ordinary turbulence is far less serious, and sometimes it can be the result of a tail-wind, especially flying west to east. Crew love tailwinds because they speed up the aircraft and reduce the flight time. Though it can get bumpy. As for the passenger's comment that she watches how the cabin crew react in order to judge the severity of an event, I'm afraid we're trained NOT to show alarm or panic, even when something serious is happening. That's key to helping to minimise panic among the passengers. Sorry. We lie.

That’s why you are told to wear your seatbelt even when the seatbelt sign is off as turbulence can happen at any time. So, please don’t try and put the blame on the airline, and this has nothing to do with it being a Boeing aircraft? All airplanes experience turbulence , it being a Boeing plane has nothing to do with what happened.

It's turbulence not the airliners it would have happened to any plane that was going through this convective storm the nose cone radar can only see initial convective whether anything that is beyond that is not in view because the reflectivity of the weather that is in front of the plane is not going to allow any convective weather that follows what is being seen . In other words if you have a box in front of you and you're looking into it you can't see all of the different boxes that are behind the box in front of you.

@@richardpark3054 this comment isn't really directed toward you but to further back what your saying so nobody can say shiz... turbulence is air movement created by atmospheric pressure, jet streams, air around mountains, cold or warm weather fronts or thunderstorms. It can be unexpected and can happen when the sky appears to be clear. also the airliner probably hit what we call wind-shear. simply put wind shear is a wind direction and/or speed change over a vertical or horizontal distance. It is significant when it causes changes to an aircraft's headwind or tailwind such that the aircraft is abruptly displaced from its intended flight path and substantial control action is required to correct it.

@@sansui77 yes , my husband was sent to San Diego to train for a job that would take us to Florida to live. My daughter was 6 months old. We had lived in Southern California before and I thought why not fly out. He was to be there 1 month. And it was probably the last opportunity to visit my friends in California before settling down in Florida. And I did want to show off my pretty little girl. Who was only 6 weeks when we had moved to Tennessee. I purchased 1 seat. My daughter was to stay in my lap. But in big planes there are seats near the front that face each other so parents traveling with small children can let them play in the floor once off the ground and everything is safe. We refueled in Dallas. And headed to San Diego with an arrival time at about 5:00 pm. But we kept going in the loop , lining up to land but would go right back up. I could see the gas station right there by the airport, every thing looked ok. But the airport was saying it’s not safe to land. That fog was setting in. We tried multiple times to land and soon it was really dark. We then went north and tried to land at an air force base but they refused saying the fog was too thick. Then we ended up at LAX. Los Angeles had closed the airport due to fog. No one was there. That’s when our pilot told us we are almost out of fuel. No fuel and no airport to land I thought we might end up in the ocean. 🌊 the flight attendant got down in my face and said “ do not let go of your baby”. Keep your flotation equipment around you ! Then the 2 flight attendant opened a big cabinet up at the front of the plane. It was full of tiny liquor bottles. They threw out the bottles to everyone who wanted them. I heard crying. And praying in every language. But suddenly I became very aware that my life could end quickly and I became overjoyed. The thought of seeing Jesus Christ just seemed so much more important. I was not scared at all. I felt completely safe and overjoyed. Then our pilot turned on the intercom so we could hear everything. That’s when he announced that we are now out of fuel. We could hear him screaming for someone to turn on runway lights. But LAX was closed and no one was still there at the airport to turn on lights. He said I’m going to try to land ! Then he said “ Oh My God ! “ The landing gear will not come down. The fight attendants were strapped in to their seats at the front of the plane now facing us. They look terrified! I looked at my daughter in my arms and I began to pray. 🙏🏻. ( Please God save my daughter. She has not had a chance to live her life. I understand if you can’t save me but please let her live. ) We hit belly down the wing where we were setting hit first. It hit HARD ! I felt my body go in every direction all at once. Still holding my daughter tight to me. We were in a crash landing with no fuel no landing gear. There is so much more to this story. I do promise to write a book about it. There are many details. Especially after we exited the plane. ✈️ there I was in LA and I should have landed in San Diego 7 hours earlier. What I will say is God was with us on that plane. He gave me so much peace & unimaginable joy. He saved me so I could raise my daughter. And go on to have more children. I do suffer with a spinal injury. I am now disabled. One day I will write the book. 📖 just know that God is always with you. And he send Angels to sometimes to help you out. So don’t fear. If death is the worst thing you ever face it’s not worth worrying about. I believe it will be the happiness day of all our life’s if we love Jesus. But for now we have a life to live right here on earth. 🌍 let’s live it for Jesus. He is so worthy .

We all have a court date set up to appear before THE JUDGE, who is God Almighty. He has no beginning and no end, and all power belongs to Him. One day very soon, every person will appear before the judgement seat of Christ, and we will be judged by the Paramount and Most Supreme Law of God. I’m not talking about provincial law, state law, federal law, or international law. I’m talking about the Law of God Almighty, which is above all law! Every person, whether a president, millionaire businessman, homeless, healthy, sick, etc. will be judged according to every single work (actions, thoughts, words spoken) done during his/her lifetime, and those who are found to have either rejected Jesus, rejected His Word, His commandments, or those who are walking and living in sin will not enter Heaven, but will end up in Hell. Today is the day of salvation, repent sincerely from the heart and cry out to Jesus and accept Jesus into your heart and commit your life to fully obey and follow Him today. Tomorrow is never promised. John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

I am betting he did not have his seat belt fastened. You are told before the flight to keep it fastened while seated. Sadly a Darwin award winner!

1. He is reported to have been in the toilet at the time. 2. He was 73 years old with wife (on the flight) and children (not on the flight). 3. Darwin award winners are those who do something stupid that causes their demise BEFORE they have reproduced, and hence cant affect the human gene pool. I am betting you dont read books, otherwise you would know this.
