Why do think Ryobi is less expensive? Do they break more easily, are they heavier, are they less accurate? I use Ryobi and I haven't had an issue but I am just wondering what I am missing with the other brands. I got into Ryobi since I bought one tool and then the battery fit an other tool and then I bought more batteries which fit more tools, flash lights, air pumps, weed eater, blower etc. and then I find two for one drills and impact drivers sold with extra batteries.

Nah, Ryobi was always junk. Weak and never hold good charge. Once I bought a combo kit that had a small battery powered circular saw. You tried and make three cuts on 1x6 pine siding and it was dead. Total garbage.

The Home Depot kits during Christmas are a great way to set up a younger person with the tools to learn how to fix or make things themselves. Don’t knock a brand for being the cheapest because it works to get people learning.

I've been a contractor for 15yrs. I started buying ryobi becuase of how often my tools were getting stolen/lost. Bottom line didn't hurt as bad, over the years I found thier quality is quite amazing. I've got vintage blues I still use at least 3xs a week going stronger than ever. Don't get me wrong..I do get laughed at while at work lol but I have a house, family, cars, trucks, etc...my buddies, well..they have tools that aren't green 🤣

@Adioownz1 you can't work for one and pull 6figures unless you become an electrician. Outside of that, becoming your own contractor is simple...but nerve racking and stressful which is why most people don't, you dont have an employer paycheck every week, you only get paid if you generate your own work. However, if your confident. Have the drive, and have mastered a skill...YOU CAN DO IT!!! And pull that 6figure income your looking for but it's WORK. Come up with your fictitious business name, get your business license, get insurred, and start advertising. Do some low bid jobs to get your name out there (word of mouth by your customers is a must). Whether your working on forklifts, docks, doors, residential work, what you can do is endless. Even if you have no major skills or licenses..you can do lawncare, pressure washing, literally anything. I've even seen kids on my block making $1,000 a day going door to door and painting people's adress number on the curb for $25 a house. Even though it's a grind..anyone can do it. People are just scared to fail and want to feel secure so they continue to put on that hard hat, punch the clock, and fall in line.

Gotta agree with you there. I love Ryobi for their reasonable prices and this lowering the barrier of entry for woodworking. Sure their quality isn’t as good as the higher tier brands, but it’s the person, not the tools that gets things done.

I love Ryobi. I sand hardwood floors and the Battery powered 18 Guage gun is clutch for doing the trim. No need to lug a compressor around. Gun went 5 years with zero issues.

I love that I can go to a yard sale and get perfectly good tools for $5-15 or sometimes even free. Half my tools are old blue/yellow models that are still kicking and even outperform some more expensive tools when equipped with a 4Ah Lithium. They're the only major brand that kept their battery from factor through the lithium transition.

Lol. No I just hate the really low quality of the tools. I have Makita for work but Ryobi at home. Drills, impact driver and multi tool are actually entirely ok. Saws and grinders don't have thermal shutdowns and will smoke doing normal stuff. I started w/ Ryobi when I went to work for myself. I now have a Harbor Freight 18v impact wrench and even though it was cheap it's still better quality than any of my green tools

I have a bunch of these tools, and while the price is attractive, the *most* important thing for me is their commitment to keeping the same battery form factor. When I first started buying tools 15 years ago, I went in with DeWalt. Over time the batteries died, and in the interim, DeWalt has released a bunch of different form factors for their cordless tool batteries. As a result, I own 5 15 year old cordless DeWalt tools that I can no longer use unless I spend more on batteries than the tools cost me.

Bought a small electric pressure washer 5 years ago for about $60 on sale. Worked great for washing cars, washing the siding of the house, back patio and the drive way. Last about 3.5 years till it crapped out but for the price and the amount of use I got out of it, I say it was a good buy. Replaced it with a newer model for a similar price and it still working great.

The first one that I bought was an 18v drill/ flashlight set with 2 batteries and charger in a case. It was around $65 at a truckload tool sale. I liked it so much that I went back and bought another to use at work. This was about 20 years ago, and I’ve bought several more tools since. My neighbor is using my recip saw right now.

I have been using Ryobi tools for well over 20 years with out any issue. I still use the old blue 18v tools I first bought. The best part is they all use the same battery style. I pretty much use them everyday and truthfully I have no problem buying new tools when they come out. I usually wait for Home Depot to have sales like buy two batteries, charger with bag you get a tool for free. All my Ryobi tools paid for themselves on the first job. My favorite tool is the Ryobi cordless miter saw. I love it for doing baseboard Crown window and door molding.

I went with Porter cable, I got a drill, impact, circular saw, multi stroke jig saw, reciprocating saw(sawzall), oscillating cutter, with sanding head and saw head, angle grinder, flashlight, batteries(2.0 and 4.0 mah), charger, and two bags, for 250 bucks at tractor supply. the price is a factor. When I bought in on Ryobi in 2004, I wanted reliability, price and locations to get service. I came from Bosche, B & D and Makita. Today, many of those same tools I bought in 2004 still work. The drill has been with me as a Toyota Tech, mobile installer, construction and all my multi award winning builds and sponsored vehicles. You're correct Sir.! 9yrs ago, I went to the Home Depot for a DeWalt 5 tool bundle, and walked past the Ryobi tool display. Beside the display was a Home Depot employee, with a cart of 9 tool bundle from Ryobi, same 5 tools as the DeWalt bundle, only a cool $140.00 less than the DeWalt bundle. I was able to use the extra money for wood for the project I was planning and get started on the project that day, instead of waiting for 2weeks, the next payday, which it ended up raining. I already had a good start on the project by that time. I still have those tools, still use the drill and driver every day at work. The flash light goes through bulbs too fast, unless you can get the 18/24volt ones, but you have to get them online. I've gotten started on my Milwaukee collection, but I still use the Ryobi stuff.

My first Ryobi combo pack lasted for two decades and I do a lot of work. Only the flashlight didn't last very long. I have replaced that set with the newer green Ryobi tools. Never had a complaint with any of them except the flashlight.

The tools I have most of are mostly Ryobi. There are a few brands I use for specific use cases. Milwaukee for cordless ratchet, DeWalt for impact driver and 3/4" impact. Ryobi covers the rest. Unless we're talking corded, it's Skil for a circ saw.

First Ryobi product I bought was a standard set of drill bits. Took one out, drilled a hole into the drywall and stud to mount my tv, the bit instantly snapped in half. Went back to the store and swapped them for dewalts. Never buying ryobi again, horrible first impression.

Exactly. These tools are of sufficient upgraded quality over low end tools for the price to satisfy most diy needs and even some professional needs as well. Ryobi also has probably the most variety of tools as well….all based on the one battery architecture and they are easy to deal with warranty wise as well (unlike some companies- looking at you blue tool from the blue store).

I have many ryobi tools and have used them for years. Here in Australia you get 6 year replacement warranty and 3 years on batteries and chargers which is great considering the price of the tools. They aren’t the work horse type tools but everything I’ve ever thrown at them they’ve done well

I have a lot of ryobi power tools and several Lawncare power tools. Love all of these. Only thing I’d say for someone new to buying the 18volt battery tools, buy yourself a couple extra sets of 6 amp and 4 amp batteries , then you’re gonna have plenty of battery. The 2 amp are fine for a drill or flashlight. But you really need the 4 or 6 amp for other tools

Well, you’d be wrong because they absolutely do not. They do have some oddballs like the bug zapper but they don’t offer 1 single heavy duty use tool so that alone should have been your hint.

I've had a lot of my Ryobi products for anywhere from 5 to 15 years and still using a lot of the original batteries. Most batteries would have gone bad by now, but mine still work and so do the tools.

I started out with DeWalt corded tools, then later added some battery versions. Finally switched to Ryobi 2 yrs ago, mostly because I couldn’t justify DeWalt’s steep battery prices and their changes to multiple battery versions. Ryobi’s High-performance batteries really do increase the tools performance! Two words… “Ryobi Days”

Don’t forget that the deals are actually deals too. Got a brushless drill, driver, (2) 2Ahr batteries plus 2 brushless tools of my choice (6 1/2” circ saw and orbital jig saw) for $200 last year. The only cordless tool I’ve needed since is a nailer and that was only $100 extra.

It's not just Ryobi's price, but for the money, your now getting the benefits of being in the market for so long, having a good reputation for the DIY segment of the market and today's Ryobi is a lot tougher than the 9yr old Ryobi stuff I still beat on daily.

I've been using Ryobi ever since I saw Mighty Car Mods using them. I was also young and broke. These Ryobi's are no joke. I use them everyday. When I worked in a body shop, I put my tools through hell and they still kept kicking. I won't ever change off of Ryobi.

I wouldn’t bet a construction company on Ryobi but for everything I’ve wanted to do myself they’ve been great. I even had one flaw in about 2 dozen products and they made it right with no real hassle. I generally use my tools 4-6 days per week.

I bought the ryobi electric ratchet for when I do battery replacements. Had it for a week and returned it because the thing had terrible power. The thing couldn’t even take off the battery terminal nut. I bought the Milwaukee version and I’ve had no issues whatsoever. Things a beast.

The price is awesome , bought heaps of tools when I bought my house to do work to it, lots of these tools I only needed for a few specific jobs , when the tool is only 100 bucks vs 400 for higher end brands you don't cringe buying them , I also use their impacts and ratchets as im a diesel mechanic, 7 years only had 1 battery die, no tools have died and I thrash my workshop tools , 10/10 for me

Got a set of Ryobi tools to use for my plumbing job, they are a year old and all of them still work fine... If they make it to two years they will have paid for themselves in savings. I was a Milwaukee fan, but Ryobi has more things to purchase to use the battery with and they work well.

I got similar combo kit from Milwaukee plus leaf blower and grinder for $550. 9 tools 3 batteries. Was good deal . I have ryobi...over 30 tools, been using them for 5 years. After 5 years, the driver shows its wear - slower than milwukee driver. Wish milwukee had magnetic screw trade that ryobis do.

It all comes down to what are you using them for and how often you use them. If I'm drilling paddle bits on a daily basis. Then ryobi brushed ain't gonna cut it

For me it's the batteries. I had a set of rigid tools when I did framing and demo. Liked them better than big red and Ryobi. But when I quit doing the work I couldn't justify $100+ for a single 4 amp battery. So getting better kids and tools on Ryobi days has been fantastic, especially with the new HP stuff that is becoming available and can compete with the more serious brands.

I have dropped my hammer drill multiple times and have an old blue ryobi vacuum I can use my new batteries on. Ryobi tools are durable and priced amazingly.

The batteries are very expensive in Ireland. A 5AH battery costs around €120 ($132 USD).

I use ryobi because my grandpa uses them. Growing up it's all I saw or worked with when I helped him on projects. Grew up, and bought my own little arsenal of ryobi tools. One day we were workin on a new set of steps for my deck about 4 or 5 stairs and his battery dies, he walks over to my tool bag, pulls out my 2 year old battery and sticks it in his saw that's just about older than me. 😂

That is important. I had Makita and they went and changed the battery connection at the same time as they changed the chemistry. Screw them! Ryobi 18v is backwards compatible with its blue tools as well as the current green.

The prices are close enough to where if the Ryobi was a lot lower quality than the others, it would be worth spending an extra $100. The fact that Ryobi is pretty good for the price makes it worth saving that hundred bucks

I got every tool i needed in a cheap kit from Ryobi. This was over 7 years ago and i beat the hell out of them all. Except the sawzall that thing just never really cut through anything. And the multi tool isn't very strong but.... The circ saw is still in my kit even though I've upgraded to all Milwaukee fuel stuff
