Great job! This race looks so well supported. Adding it to my bucket list

Does anyone have any critiques or comments on the video? I'm trying to get better with my editing/flow and any comments on pacing, visuals, sound etc are welcome. After rewatching I feel like maybe I went a little high on the music volume in some sections maybe? Let me now your thoughts!

I like the zoom in to the aid stations. Good use of the course to keep us having some context of what's going on. I had headphones on when watching most of it and didn't notice bad audio mixing.

I am really enjoying your videos. How you are putting the info about your miles and every Aid Station is well done! You are not using music too much (it can get quite exhausting, listening to dramatic music for the whole race - I did turn of some running videos because of the overusing of music). Overall, I like your videos very much and you dont need to change anything at all. But if you want to learn how to post edit the videos (saturation, brightness and overall coloring of the video) I would recommend the running channel "ginger runner" who did some very good running films. Ethan does sometimes too much saturation for my taste, but his movies might give you some ideas how to edit your videos, to give them more of a "story movie" feeling. But as I said twice before, I like your videos very much, how you are talking to us during the race and overall your attitude. Keep running and I keep watching. Greetings from Germany 👋😊

Thank you! I spend a lot of time choosing music that sets the tone, so I'm happy it's appreciated :)

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think this was a great race, and as tough as it is the aid stations are top notch.

Great video! I ran this year and plan to run again in 2024. This video will help me prepare for next year!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm thinking of doing a series on "How to survive the [insert race]" and was thinking this would be a good candidate. It seems like a daunting race, but it's very enjoyable due to the awesome aid stations which are spaced perfectly apart. The biggest stressor was the cut-offs. I was always about 90 to 120 minutes ahead of the cut-offs, so I was never in danger of DNFing, but mentally it was always in the back of my head because most races have way more forgiving times. And to put some perspective, I finish 72nd out of 159 so I really had no business worrying about it, and there were almost 80 people that finished after me that obviously beat the cut-offs.

@Feet First Athletics That's awesome. I actually remember seeing you finish. I waited for Chris Stangle to come across before I left. I finished in 19 hrs. I was in 7th all the way up to mile 40, but realized I left my spike at the previous aid station. I had to turn back around to get it! This next year, I'd like to certainly finish in the top 10 to top 5.

Very cool; great job! Living in the area provides me an opportunity to run most of the portions occasionally though not all at once. Like training on the Winding Stair road and all through Jake's and Bull Mtn areas. Keep up the good work!

That's awesome, I'd love to eventually live in north Georgia because the trails are so amazing. I appreciate being able to train in the Florida heat but those mountains always call to me.

Awesome job and great video!!! Question for you, what was that stuff you were rubbing on your feet when you changed your socks? Was that just a lube? Thanks as always!!
@FeetFirstAthletics Жыл бұрын
That was Salty Britches, specifically the black "skin barrier" version. I've been using that for the past 6 months and it's awesome for all over, not just feet. Thighs, underarms, chest, etc only require one or maybe two applications for long races. The only reason I re-applied it to my feet was because the trail was so wet and muddy the first half. I didn't change my socks the rest of the race after this point and my feet came out looking pretty good.

Great video as always!!! Just curious I'm running cruel jewel in May and have driven to Georgia a few times to train on Coosa Bald and I absolutely loved the downhills. Are they less runnable after Coosa or is it just a personal preference 😂
@FeetFirstAthletics Жыл бұрын
For my personally I ran the initial downhills very cautiously since I wasn't able to get much vert training in. Honestly the downhills tear my quads up more than the uphills so I was focused on saving my legs for the final 20-30 miles where it was less technical. If you have trained for the vert the downhills in the first 36-ish miles are extremely runnable after Coosa so you should be fine for CJ100. I plan on returning in 2025 to try and go sub-18hrs, so I'll hopefully get more training in and shave a lot of time in the first half. I also want to do CJ100 (or maybe the 50) again, so I'm possibly eyeing that for 2024 or 2025.

That's awesome. I can't wait to get back to GA for the cruel jewel but I'm only doing the 50 as it's a training run for Silver rush 50 in Colorado........I'm trying to get into leadville 😅

Curious, I just finished the Crest for the Crest race in NC...my feet get tore up really badly when going through creek crossings and getting wet...blisters are terrible. Do you have any suggestions?? Awesome video! GDR is on my list now!
@FeetFirstAthletics Жыл бұрын
I use Salty Britches lube on my feet, but trail toes and squirrels nut butter are also good. I lube up before the race and then before every sock change. I change socks like once or twice during a race, but more often if there's a lot of debris in my shoes. also, if I feel any hotspot, I'll stop and lube up the spot. Losing 5 to 10 minutes for a lube or sock change sucks, but limping in pain later on is worse lol. The lube keeps the moisture from tearing up the feet, but any dirt or debris will tear your feet up regardless. I also use wool socks, and have had success using smart wool brand. They wick moisture a little better and I find I can wear them longer when wet. Good luck for GDR, it's an awesome race with some amazing runners and volunteers that all want you to succeed!

Nice! What cream were you using on your feet to prevent blistering? Thanks
@FeetFirstAthletics Жыл бұрын
My favorite this year has been salty britches, it's kept my feet in excellent shape. I also like trail toes but Salty is the best. I actually have a video posted on Salty Britches if you want more info.

What maps did you use to show progress in the video? Great video.
@FeetFirstAthletics Жыл бұрын
I downloaded the maps in 8k resolution from Google Earth and made the effects using the built in VFX tools in Davinci Resolve. I used to use Relive app, they can generate a really cool looking mapped route, but I like making my own because I have more control over the graphics (even though it takes a while to make them).

Q: For an old fart veteran with bad knees…What knee brace is that?
@FeetFirstAthletics Жыл бұрын
It's just some $20 one I found on Amazon that had good reviews! Powerlix knee sleeve is the name, and it's held up well to my punishment.
